We should build the capital of the world...
on the Moon!

Seriously New York probably has the largest claim, though maybe The country of Switzerland itself (no objections right?) could serve.
Or perhaps just draw tickets from a hat with every country in the world written on them. The capital of the world goes to the country whose name gets pulled out.

I would say, that it would have to be built from scratch so no one would fight about it. Probably in Europe though.

That's because they're interesting ;)

That's even more hilarious because I never see you on the most interesting thread in the world.

It talks about story arcs and plot devices, then proceeds to go very off tangent.
It talks of Rule 34, then proceeds to post interesting things.
It encompasses many beliefs, people, and ideas, while making fun of all of them.

I usually don't post, but when I do, it's on the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic thread on Arts & Fiction.

Stay classy NS.

Nope. As I've said, not yet feasible.

What an interesting Question, OP.

Lets see. Here are my options.
Australia would make a decent capital in the same way Belgium did for the EU. It wouldn't offend any runners up. It is a young country, multicultural, in a largely remote part of the world, but is nonetheless prosperous, free, and representative of all the ideals of globalised capitalism.
Australia would make a good capital for the new world- Probably Darwin, actually, even though it is a minor Australian city, it is right on the edge of Asia. Otherwise Sydney.

Otherwise, it is too hard to pick a historical capital that doesn't exclude massive chunks of history. London would be a decent pick, being the home of the global language- as well as holding a huge global empire at one point that touched most cultures.

You could refound Uruk in mesopotamia as the first known city and build an artificial capital there (modern day Iraq). Then it would be like Canberra in Australia- a horrible artificial hell hole conceived purely for the affairs of state and populated with an orwellian layering of pay-graded public servants. Yay.

So, out of Darwin/Sydney, London, and Uruk I lean towards Uruk. I like the idea of putting the world's politicians in an violent unstable desert hellhole.

That is a good idea, why don't we take all the politicians, and put them in the desert? Uruk and Sumer would be nice to see. The Cradle of Civilization is now back, to care for the new Civilization, one of peace and prosperity.

Personally I beleive that middle Africa would be the most appropriate place for a world capital.

Not only does africa have great historic meaning to the human race (e.g. the place from whence we all came) but it is also as politically neutral as your going to get without building an island out to sea.

Africa is a continent so divided with so many ideologies that no 1 global alliance could claim advantage in a united capital.

Or at least that is m own oppinion..

Contrary to the propaganda, we live in probably the least materialistic culture in history. If we cared about the things of the world, we would treat them quite differently. We would be concerned with their materiality. We would be interested in their beginnings and their ends, before and after they left our grasp.

Technically, humans migrated from South Africa, so Cape Town or Johannesburg would be appropriate places.

But everybody knows that Zanzibar is where it's at.

If world was one nation, I am pretty sure we could afford to build a gigantic space station... which could be the capital.

The only world governing body(as weak and inconsequential as it is) has its capital in New York.

That...
It has the worst traffic in entire universe, bus drivers are mental, people park where they are supposed to be driving, and repairing a inch of road takes over 3 months, then in 1 month, they dig it and start all over again.

not a city, but mt carmel, world center of the baha'i faith, planetary federal district.

i don't know it that's still my personal feeling. there are a lot of other, what might be sensible candidates. but i don't think any existing city as such is a logical one.

wherever it ends up, it will most likely NOT be anywhere in the western hemisphere.
the only reason for locating it near the equator would be neutrality between the southern and northern hemispheres.

ha, i wouldn't mind seeing lhasa or kathmandu. someplace up in the hills.

but it needs to be ideologically neutral, as well as religiously and every other way, and its probably still in the future for any place to be so.
it's a bridge to be crossed when we come to it. but we do need to come to it at some point.
truth isn't what i say. isn't what you say. isn't what anybody says. truth is what is there, when no one is saying anything.

Tokyo, because that way when people write the wikipedia article, they can have "Capital (and Largest City)" rather than having two lines listing two different cities.

It should be Jericho ( a city in palistine) it's the oldest city in the world.
I think where civilization began it should also be ruled there too.
