Postby Krakke » Mon Sep 05, 2011 8:15 pm

Just a question. Most (dare I say all) of the Tea Partiers that I know are complete tinfoil-hat style conspiracy people, including both my parents. Is it just an isolated incident, or do all the Tea Party members think like this?

A good deal of them are, but I hope not most or all. Hopefully it's just the loud minority of them. Hopefully.

Being a centre-right Libertarian (with several admittedly liberal stances on various issues), I get mistaken for a Tea Partier a lot, and have met several of them. I don't really think that conspiracy theories are very common among their ranks. You'll only see NWO being mentioned in said loud majority.

I, on the other hand, believe in time travellers, espers, and aliens. Because they're more interesting. ;)

It's a commonly held belief that Obama is either/and/or any of the following:

-Socialist
-Born in Kenya
-Muslim
-A Soviet/Chinese/Other Spy

I myself only am inclined to believe the first one, and that only partially.

Anyone who would define Obama as a socialist does so by using an inaccurate definition of socialist, or has no understanding of the policies he's pursued. That said, I'm open to the argument he may be an ex-socialist.

So you ask a question, then you imply you know the answer?

No, not all Tea Partiers are conspiracy theorists. It's a very loud minority.

Then again, it could be said about democrats that they are "conspiracy theorists," too. You know, because the right wing is conspiring to take away everyone's health care and the poor's money...

You mean the Republicans aren't the ones looking to reduce Medicare and Medicaid and keep raising the Social Security age and raise payroll taxes...? Seems pretty accurate, if not very precise.

Well, many folks here hate people they like to call "conspiracy theorists" (as portrayed by pop culture), and some people here also hate Tea Party members (as portrayed by mass media). Ergo, to them, they are one and the same. Likewise, to those people, both are equivalent to and coinciding with the following:

-Racists
-Sexists
-Other bigots
-Fanatics
-Terrorists
-Republicans
-Right-wingers
-Anarchists
-Libertarians
-Bad people
-Etc.

The Tea Party has become the go-to for blame in practically anything. Bad economy? Blame the Tea Party. Bad politicians? Blame the Tea Party. Bad policies? Blame the Tea Party. Bad haircut? Blame the Tea Party. Ad infinitum.

They've almost succeeded in getting people to ignore Democrats and Republicans and just hate them instead, which I'm having a real hard time figuring out whether or not that's better or worse. Simultaneously a false front for real activism and a perfect distraction for the mass media to feed the people, they've really kept digging themselves into a hole. There's not too many people nowadays who choose to associate with them. They get all the hate that other "freedom-oriented" movements get from those entrenched in living off of the Government's teat, yet none of the actual results necessary to make a difference in this country.

A fair share of people from opposite ends of the political spectrum tend to dwell on conspiracies. It's just that the Tea Party is probably the most vocal.
