Hey that's where my father's line comes from! I'm too poor to get one done, but maybe one day I might investigate. That stuff fascinates me.

It continues to get cheaper while the process becomes more Streamline but it is still a rather niche market. I only happened to get it done because there was a sale at Family Tree DNA and you can at least trust them as their labs are located at Arizona State University.

How in the H-E-double hockeysticks, could I possibly know that, if I'm not a geneticist?

I'd be from one of the ones that we're most common in Western and Northern Europe likely, my ancestry is French/North Irish with a small amount of Norman and Scottish.

Would you like us to scan and upload our individual DNA/RNA sequence as well? Come on, now.

That isn't what determines your y-haplogroup it is your y-chromosome which has been passed down from father and son since humans appeared as a species. It is the evolutions of such which give a rough idea of where your people likely lived pre and post ice age.

Well I've heard they look for people with Aboriginal blood to do research on in regards to Haplogroups. If they do that again, I might look into that.

I know one group was paying for it but they have since down what their grant was for and no longer accept packets as far as I know. I will give it a look over and see if they are still doing it and if so I will drop you a TG. Last I checked though they had down what Brigham Young University had mandated so they are just a database now I think.

It was part of an effort to further the knowledge of people from areas that most researchers don't typically bother with due to poverty levels and the like. Most genetic testing at this point is done on the voluntary basis and is thus heavily and overly concentrated of Western Europeans and North Americans which leads to some lopsided results. This is why I am hoping for more genetic testing in Eastern Europe as it will likely lead to more useful answers for me as Western Europe at this point is a rather dry well with a scattering of people.

Wow, that's a good idea. Well they might be interested in my family then, especially my Dad's side. German/Irish/English/Aboriginal with possible Melanesian, Chinese and more. I'm a bloody mongrel. :p
