How is it "updated"?

When Englisk words don't exist I try to create cognates based on their equivalents in Norwegian, Danish, Scots, Dutch, Frisian or German.

Wasn't modern English coined the same way? I think I read somewhere that many of the words we know today had to be made up in the English language. It was especially hard to do when translating the Bible to English.

Modern English tends to borrow a lot of phrases from Latin and Greek, and my goal is to avoid Romance and Greek derived words where possible. Luckily the other Germanic languages tend to have lots of useful equivalents that are Germanic based.

Some charts further down in the article show rules for vowel changes from Proto-Germanic to Old English to Middle English to Modern English.
You'd need to know the etymological origins (Proto-Germanic) of the Norwegian, Danish, Dutch, etc. words in order to understand how they would hypothetically have become English words via Old English. Etymylogical sources are fairly easy to find, though.

No one is. But, as we say in Spanish, 'ante la duda, saluda'. (if in doubt, say hi- meaning, if you're not sure you hurt someone's feelings with something you said, ask them).

I feel like I do that all the time, think I said the wrong thing, second guess myself, worry over possible offense.
