I don't (and won't) claim to know that much about tribal...*tries to think of the right word...*...rivalries and associations. All I really know is that the Cherokee were offshoots of one of the Iroquois tribes...

From what I've seen, read, and heard, the Sioux, Penobscot, Wampanoag and Cherokee (my other tribes) didn't have any rivals. The Narragansett and Pequot were at each others throats constantly, though. Like an older version of Red Sox - Yankees.

Since I've read a lot about it...

Not Iroquois per say (as in not a part of the Six Nations), but speakers of an Iroquoian language, much like Huron and Erie were.

Sort of like how Danes are Germanic speakers, but not German speakers.

Its an area I've neglected to read up on... But I did read the wiki article, and there is strong evidence to believe that the Cherokee used to be a part of one of the Iroquois tribes, but moved further south about 1200 AD, IIRC...
