I disagree.

As an art historian, I can tell you a lot of people factor in liking something in order to consider it art. Quite lame. I am not an abstract art fan, but I wouldn't dare say it isn't art. It is. I just don't personally like it.

I like the Avant-garde art movements.

I am a Medieval, Renaissance and Manierism fan myself. I enjoy Romanticism to a degree, and I can tolerate Cubism.

Maybe, but I wasn't interested enough to find out and the extra workload to ignore probably would have sunk me below passing by the end of the year. I think I wrote up a total of one lab and maybe a paper or two through the whole year of that class, and the lab may have been completely copied from a friend with a rewritten conclusion.

I came to the conclusion, early on, that performance in school doesn't matter much to a future college student. I had classmates who were in the honor roll and who aced all their tests in school, but were completely inept when they entered college. Some of them even dropped out because they couldn't deal with the workload, and these being honor roll students.

For what I can gather about you, I think you'll do marvelously in college.

Assuming I can get in, that is. My biggest worry for the future is whether I'll be able to attend a worthwhile college, and whether I'll be able to make a living as a writer. Of course, I've no qualms with working fairly crappy jobs to support myself while writing, so I should be fine. And hopefully my friend and I will actually go through with our plan to live in an apartment through college, since as far as I know he's not planning on going to college at all. His future is something of a worrisome mystery.

Besides learning, the only reason I actually plan on going to college is for some semblance of credibility as a writer. I think it'll be easier to get published with a degree in something, regardless of what that actually is.

Yeah. That's what people do with art. For example, I hate it how people say movies like Primer or Space Odyssey isn't a movie. What the hell? It's moving pictures. It's a movie. Same goes with paintings and other artforms.

I think that if you're a good writer, whether you have a degree or not won't matter. But I understand. A college degree gives a person more credibility, but by no means does it guarantees work. Trust me, I know.

These are circles that are full of snobs. I've seen critics crucify an exhibit on the grounds of them not liking the painter. Give the medium some credit, forget that the artist dresses this way or that. Credit him/her for what matters, the quality of their work.
