What are your favorite bands?
If you would have too many to list, as would I, list your favorite genres.

I have on my computer everything from Jean Sibelius to Bob Dylan to Dragonforce.
You didn't tell me there was going to be math-Mike Krahulik AKA Gabe, after finding out he had to do math in Dungeons & Dragons, also my reaction finding out that I had to do math in most of the storefronts.

Long term: Pink Floyd
Interest of late: School of Seven Bells - saw them live last week. Excellent.
Classical composer: Dmitri Shostakovich

This was so much easier a few years back. I can't name my all time favourite bands as there are too many now, and I struggle to think in genres. I can give you a couple of bands I love at the moment however. Sigur Ros and Ladyhawke. An honourable mention to Radiohead too, who I shall be seeing this summer :-)

Orchestral/art music: I'm partial to the Romantics, in particular the late romantic to romantic/moderntransitional composers: Mahler, Tchaikovsky, Dvořák, Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel, Schoenberg, Debussy, and the like...

Folk/Roots/Traditional: I love traditional (and not so traditional) Celtic, Cajun, Okinawan, Chinese, and many other forms of music.

Jazz: I'm quite partial to Bop, Cool, and Acid. I saw Miles Davis live. I think John Coltraine's recording of "My Favorite Things" on the 1961 album of the same name is the voice of god. The Grassy Knoll is wicked cool. Billie Holiday.

C/W: I love me some Outlaws - Willie, Waylon, Big John Cash, David Allen "Take This Job and Shove it" Coe, and so on. Charlie is one of my two favorite Daniels.

Bluegrass: Bill Monroe, of course. Doc Watson was pretty awesome.

Rock: AC/DC to Zager and Evans, and all sorts of stuff in between.

Old school win: Buddy Holly, Big Bopper, Elvis, Bill Haley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Bo Diddley,

The Allman Brothers Band, Marshall Tucker Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc.

Lots of NWoBM and "classic" metal - Sabbath, Maiden, Def Leppard, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Motörhead, etc.

Some Glam Metal/Rock - Quiet Riot, Ratt, Mötley Crüe, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Twisted Sister and the like...

Punk: where to start....

Yep. I like me some good music

Right at the moment, I'm listening to Emilie Autumn*. Other favourites include Neutral Milk Hotel, Beirut, Apocalyptica, Rasputina, Ego Likeness, Abney Park, Thomas Truax, Joe Black, and Ghostfire.

And Amanda Palmer. Who is quite possibly one of the best artists ever to walk the Earth, and you should all go listen to her music right about now. She plays and sings wonderfully, writes fantastic lyrics, and performs like a goddess. Go listen to, for example, this song, which is both incredibly funny and very on topic for a typical NSG discussion.

*Current track: Let The Record Show. Fantastic song. Next on the playlist is Shallott, which has some of the cleverest lyrics ever.

I've been listening to It's Blitz constantly since it leaked I bought my legitimate copy. I made a compilation for my friend's birthday, these are the songs on it, giving a reasonable indication of what I've liked of late:

Animal Collective
Fleet Foxes
Belle & Sebastian
Oscar Peterson Trio
Headlights
Sigur Ros
Calexico
Iron & Wine
M83
Howling Bells
Dirty Three
Bon Iver
Rilo Kiley
Stars
Neutral Milk Hotel
Caspian
I Am Kloot
Wilco
Explosions in the Sky

My all time favourite band is Uncle Tupelo. The artist I have most records by is Johnny Cash. The most recent gig I went to was Bob Dylan.

I'm partial to the Romantic period of Classical music, though Baroque is a close second.
My favorite composers would have to be Mendelssohn, Rachmaninov and Chopin.

Genre? Metal, punk and just some damn good rock.

Bands? As always the top of my list is Motorhead, but I'm big on most of the other British bands of the time as well. Exodus is by far my favourite thrash band. Of the punk I listen too, it tends to mostly be hardcore, so stuff like D.O.A. and the Dead Kennedys. And most of the general rock I listen to is the stuff that pioneered metal, the first real heavy rock so bands like Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult and Steppenwolf.
