Too many languages, too little time.

I just got back from Japan and atrophy had done the same to my Japanese. I was able to say hello, order food, say it was delicious, and say good bye. This made for a lot of good meals but little other direct interation until I remembered all I had forgotten.

I'm a native English speaker--I was in a French immersion program for several years, and seem to briefly unforget the language at odd times, never when I need it the most. I speak a little German, too, though mostly when drunk.

And to answer the OP: My mother tongue is dutch. I know English very well. I am decent in German, okay in French.

I know a whole load of sentences, songs, expressions in various languages spoken throughout Europe.

And I love Hungarian and would like to learn more.

I am fluent in Castilian Spanish.

I am close to fluent in Latin.

I have a pet peeve for near-to-correct-if-not-correct English expression.

I'm from England, so that's my native language. I take the standard French and German at school, and since I'd love to live and teach in Wales, I'd love to learn some basic Welsh.

Thanks,
The Order.

My native language is German.

I thought I was rather fluent in English or at least at a point where no one makes fun of my abuse of the language anymore but yesterday, it happened again :( Thank you very much, Taeshan.

I also speak Esperanto and Rejistanian :ugeek:

I forgot much of the French I learned in high school. Ie: I can understand French speakers somewhat but not reply in French. I also tend to confuse Esperanto and French words: Je ne komprenas pas.

I tried to learn Turkish, but stopped doing so.

I have to say that English is my native languages, although I have started taking up a bit of German due to the fact I watch the country's channels often.

In NS roleplay I use six languages for my nation, Chinese, Czech, Danish, English, German, Japanese.

How can you have 'American English', sure they have different accents from us but it isn't a whole different language. It's just plain English. Only call it American English if your going to spell words the wrong way.

My native language's Romanian, and I'm pretty much fluent in English (CAE tests never lie!!!). I study French and Hebrew (Hebrew-centered high school, long story...) - I'm really mediocre in French, I can read Hebrew if it has the niqqud but everything else I learn about Hebrew just doesn't seem to stick.

I also learned German for a year a while ago - I can read and write it fine, make really super-basic sentences and count in it - and picked up bits and pieces of Japanese from various anime.

They have a few different words, and some different spellings. Its more of a dialect than its own language.

I think it can be safely assumed everyone here knows how to speak english, it being an English-written website and all.
I did a little German in school but i hated it, not the language as such the teacher was teh stupid when it came to teaching techniques. I have google translator for everything else, which i have used in a real conversation with people at my flat, was most useful.
