Most Americans Are Liberal

Postby Geilinor » Wed Aug 03, 2011 11:22 pm

The self-indication poll that suggests most Americans are conservative is wrong. Most Americans actually have liberal views, issue by issue. http://mediamatters.org/reports/progmaj/

I'm not sure if this is gonna work out with everyone here on NS, Geilinor. Some people might start to disagree.

You know what else studies show? That our education is sub-standard, and we depend massively on The Government on a day to day basis.

But I'm sure it's all purely co-incidence...

It would be a boring thread if everyone agreed.

I'm going to take issue with the poll, though.

A lot of those items are not Liberal at all, and some are actually Conservative/Authoritarian.

Liberal as compared to what, I'm sure 'liberals' of old were conservative by current estimation.

It can only really be 50/50.

I agree.

Liberal to my mind, should not be conflated with more government, in general.

Still this data saddens me, we've got people genuinely supporting things that will only cause more problems in the future, putting more faith in government than themselves, it's never good.

It's funny how people with progressively minded liberal opinions can be conditioned to believe they are conservatives by the mass media by labeling "Liberals" are dirty communists who want one party totalitarianism where government death panels decide whether you live or die.

I know. It's a shame, huh?

Sorry, but you know I had to do it. For a real comment...

I'd have to agree. The more conservative states are generally smaller, whereas liberals tend to flock to more populated states, so it makes some sense. However, from what I've noticed, Americans overall are more conservative than most others in the world. Can anyone verify that for me?

Thats odd since Beck started those rumors. Maybe you heard Alex Jones regurgitate it?

I've never referred to myself as a conservative, although I have referred to myself as a (classical) liberal.
