The NT represents God as someone who wants a relationship with us? I never thought of it that way, how do I go about interpreting the NT to make God out to be someone who wants a relationship with us? Was it said so in the verses?

Well, assuming everything in the Bible was true word for word, which is in it of itself is INSANELY unlikely (seriously don't think about it too much your head will implode.), then yes he is obviously evil.

Existence is irrelevant when discussing good or evil. Most villains from literature, fairy tales, cartoons. computer games etc. do not exist in the real world; yet we recognise them as evil just the same.
