The Best US State

Postby Ostronopolis » Mon May 25, 2009 5:37 pm

So what does everyone think the best state in the US is? This isn't meant to be a full blown political conversation, just a nice talk about what state you like best.

My favorite is a tie between New Hampshire and Texas.

1) I must hear the reasoning behind THAT tie.

2) Best state in the union is Hawaii. It's nice all year, they have good beaches, a healthy tourism industry, and there's hula girls.

Michigan. We have the longest unemployment lines, the most dilapidated auto factories, all the best imported Canadian garbage, and all the most wonderful Americans, such Kwame Kilpatrick and Dr. Kevorkian.

I'm from Illinois so obviously I think Illinois is the best. How could u not like it though. You cant say you dont like illinois until you've been to Chicago. If you like small town life, we got that too. And dont give me any of that texas highschool football crap. Illinois is where the real smalltown football is.

I rather liked Oregon when I've visitied there. I used to say Nevada, but thanks to our idiot of a gov, I wouldn't go there right now.

Not New Jersey: in Jersey, all we have are decent shorelines, gambling(Atlantic City), and low gas prices. THat's all canceled out by a huge tax burden to a state government that has no idea how to spend it.

I can't wait to move out of Jersey when I'm of age!

Yea, but the women are probably crazies.

As my vote, it's a tie between North Carolina and California.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.- Carl Sagan

I have been lucky enough to have visited many (but not all) of the states, and although I appreciate them all, Texas was and is home, and will always be my favorite.

But I love New Jersey, I love the shoreline myself, but I also love the outdoors. I live adjacent to a forest that has a serene lake in it. Its has always been a childhood place for me.

Live in Utah, born and raised in Michigan..... I'm probably going to to go with Texas, even though other then El Paso, I've only ever driven through. Lots of open space, and gun laws that aren't insane (read: Illinois), uhm. I guess that's about it, and by that it doesn't even win out over Alaska or Vermont. But oh well.....

As Dyakovos pictures (especially the middle one) prove, Upstate NY is indeed beautiful. It would be even better if it weren't for all the snow in the winters.
