I proof read everything I write because of this.

You may find others who have reading/writing disorders are those who care about grammar, as they put an effort into writing legibly so that they can be understood, and therefore would appreciate it if others would do the same.

I know that it's snobbish, but I tend to completely disregard issues and ignore comments from those who don't bother to properly construct their argument. I was taught it's best to do something right of you're going to do it at all. …Sorry, it's best to do something correctly:p

I invariably use the francified version. But I know it doesn't make sense. It gives the letter z basically nothing to do.

I remember hearing a story that the Académie Francais tried to tell the French what they should say for weekend, the French people ignored them and instead went with le weekend.

Well, yes, the lack of punctuation.

We can understand what you said, but it takes longer to understand what you wrote, and it reflects poorly on you that you can not manage to keep an even basic level of grammatical understanding on a forum--a form of communication that REQUIRES purely written words to convey meaning.

If I was talking to you in person, then I'd probably understand you fine. However, over a computer and without visual cues, it does get difficult and frustrating to read.

And:

Some people are confused by the difference between spelling and grammar. This reinforces my opinion of their intelligence made when viewing their poor spelling.
We in Gravonia have set our sights very low, so low in fact that even glory will have in it an echo of failure.

Well, then that would mean the sentence needs to be rephrased. You cant write for "university".
"It is something ingrained in me through writing while in a university." Thats rough, but correct.

In areas where the Queen's English is spoken or written (including Canada, even though their accent is different), "writing for university" is acceptable, and it's becoming more acceptable in the US. It's essentially the same as someone in the US saying "writing for college."

Being pedantic, Randur, doesn't work when you're wrong.

Nice trolling.
(By the way, I speak five languages at least decently, and have some command of other five).

English, thank God, has no government institution to regulate how we should and should not speak. English grammar is our common heritage, it belongs to everyone of us to use in any way we see fit.

Fine, as long as you don't pretend to be understood.
By the way, other languages, like Italian for one, are regulated by non-profit institutions, which aren't governmental though.

I was almost forgetting: it should be "governmental". There's a difference between nouns and adjectives. This service has been brought to you by LearnYourOwnLanguage.

There is so much more I'd like to say about this topic, but suffice it to say, Grammar Nazis do indeed suck!

More trolling. *yawn*

In all seriousness, I really do agree with you. An occasional abbreviation is okay, in my humble opinion, but constant abbreviation simply obfuscates what would otherwise be a cogent and coherent discussion. To prove my point:

You don't like abbreviations? Why not? They make writing easier for those of us who have, and I may be missing a few adjectives here, described as retarded children earlier on this thread. I do not have a problem with grammar nazi's, per se, but sometimes they're just rude about it. Not everyone composes at a college-level or higher.

Honestly, I am not a retarded child, but I couldn't tell you what a participle is, or what it does. I couldn't tell you what a preposition is, or what it does. Now, a conjunction, I know that. Thanks to School House Rock.

So, if peace between the grammar nazi's and those who aren't Hemmingway's should ever stand a chance of being established, then maybe the grammar nazi's should have a thread with links to help educate the masses.
