The use of the singular verb indicates the pronoun is considered a singular antecedent. Thus, the line should read: "English grammar is our common heritage; it belongs to everyone of us to use in any way he/she sees fit."

"Everyone of us" is actually completely nonsensical.

Agreed! That is why "all" is likely a better choice. Nonetheless, in editing, one works with the writer and offers choices.

Or just let us write in same manner in which we speak, thus making reading easier for the reader? Perhaps? Or, creating a new language that isn't so, well, pardon my French, but, fucked up like English?

I edit with a new software called Concentration. It drops the inferior words into a Concentration trash bin, so I may edit in peace.

I wouldn't call myself a grammar nazi. Although I do dislike it when people can't use speak right in their native language, I don't scream at them like a maniac and persecute them for it. I just ask them why it's so hard for them to use correct grammar.

Some languages actually do that, IIRC. The way it is written is the same as it is spoken.

Poor grammar makes it almost impossible for me to enjoy something that I'm reading.

I had a dream. That fragments and dangling participles, that sentences ending with a preposition and double negatives could all join hands and sing in the great chorus, "Free at last! Free at last! Thank God almighty, we're free at last!"
