Hitting anyone without their consent should be unacceptable outside of self-defence.

...Or you could always make it clear to them that kicking isn't to be tolerated with words or some non-violent repercussion. You don't have to physically harm the child at all.

You know for some weird reason I read that as woman. Hmm. Maybe it is too early for rum.

What a stupid remark to make. Seriously, that's not even worth an answer.

You were the one who said he'd hit anyone if they "swung" on you. I find that to be a far dumber statement.

Honestly, I used the child as an extreme, but consider that instead of a child, the person who swung on you was, oh, half your size? That he posed no threat to you at all? You would still swing on him?

Hitting someone is morally wrong, but in today's society...at least in the areas I have lived, it is considered more wrong for a man to hit a girl then the other way around or a man hitting a man. In a better society hitting a girl should be just as wrong as hitting a guy, but still today in most places I have been it is worse to hit a girl then hitting a guy.

Aha, well I think it's sad that someone would read that and perceive a maternal tone. I would think that this is what most civilized people agree upon, that hitting anyone is wrong.

Ya-huh.

My friend's kid broke her nose and broke her rib (at age 5) by kicking her on two different occasions. Each time she was sat in time out and it was EXPLAINED to her why this was wrong. And she kept doing it to all the adults around her.

The FIRST time she punched me I said, "That hurts, what was that for? I didn't hit you, tease you, or hurt you. That makes me very angry, and if you do it again, I'm going to hit you back."

The SECOND time she punched me, I grabbed her by the shoulder, spun her around so she faced away from me, and slapped her one on the ass so hard she staggered. She whirled around and yelled, "You HIT me!"
"Damn right I did. Did you enjoy it?"
"NO!"
"Neither did I the two times you hit me. Don't ever hit me again."

Funny enough, she's never hit me again, and I'm her "favorite aunt".

It doesn't matter. Even if a frigging midget walked up and tried to 'swing' at me, (this is a colloquialism that you foreigners undoubtedly don't know) I'd still punch them. It's a matter of self defence. You can't just give someone a bloody nose if they're intent on smacking you one, you put them down and don't give them a chance to get up and try again.

And to prevent someone like you misrepresenting this as an example 'violent behaviour', this is realistic and in line with the expectation of self-defence in the UK, and undoubtedly elsewhere.

Mabie, but mabie you did'nt understand what I was meaning. I ment that you souldn't be constantly letting what we call morals taunt you into doing what other people will think is a good deed. Automaticly do the right thing not what others think is right but what you know is right. Being moraly correct isn't always right. Just do the right thing.

If he can't harm you, why this need? What if you could restrain him in a way that didn't involve you hitting him? Or you could leave and call the proper authorities and let them deal with it?

I'm just trying to raise the fact that there are other options that you have, ones that don't involve punching people, and that in light of the fact that these options always exist, you should take advantage of them.

And to prevent someone like you misrepresenting this as an example 'violent behaviour', this is realistic and in line with the expectation of self-defence in the UK, and undoubtedly elsewhere.

Sure, people may be raised with this type of thinking, but that doesn't make it morally right, or right in any sense.

Did any of you try threatening to take away something she held dear? Or providing a positive incentive for her if she stopped hitting people.

Its just, I've never been around a child so unruly that she could break her parent's nose and I can't really imagine a child that isn't more or less easily cajoled by their parents at that age.

There's a reason for that, actually. Mainly, this.

Ya, that about sums it up. If its your girlfriend then ya, your gonna take the hit wheather its slap to the face or a kick to the nuts.
If its not your girlfriend and they do it, then in my opinion, it is fair game.

Only in a sexual roleplay context where she wants to be and is turned on by it.

Or in self-defense. If a girl tries to stab me I'll probably react the same way as a guy trying to stab me.

Just because you can't imagine it does not mean it doesn't exist. And yes, she had things taken away, and it was explained, so please, don't try to move the goalposts again.

No but its alot better then what happens if you stop them (i like having my hearing and nuts) and besides, if they do too much they feel "sorry" if you get my drift 8)

Then honestly, if you put up with it, you're implicitly telling her it's ok to abuse you.
If you like that sort of thing, more power to you.

She is going to do it anyway, wheather its then or 10 times worse tommorrow. And i rather like being around my girlfriend and not having to watch my back.

Its obviously not as acceptable for a man to hit a woman as it is for a woman to hit a man. Personally I don't think there should be any difference.
