E. Coli kills people. Here's an article on it. Particularly pay attention to the part about unpasteurized fruit juice. So yeah, if they used the bathroom and didn't wash properly while preparing or selling this, people could get very sick.

Probably less risk than if you've touched the handle of a door in a public place, realistically.

(Or used the drink machine in a McDonalds, for example.)

At least with the lemonade stand, you've got some data. You know what the product is supposed to be, and who is supposed to have been involved - and can make a little bit of a value judgement.

And you people wonder why its so hard to start a business, why there are so few, and why so many fail... :palm:

Once you get through all those barriers to entry you then have to worry about actually paying for your business and by then your probably in the red.

Sorry, but I'd rather have my cops stop actual crimes, rather than bullying little children over a lemonade stand.

They certainly don't think of themselves as "little children," I can tell you that. It just bugs me that anyone under 18 is considered to be 6 if they aren't burning a bridge.

I'm pretty sure being on duty means you're being paid to stop or prevent crimes as they appear which is what they did. Walking by would have cost exactly the same amount of money.

Blame Reagan. It was his much vaunted 'tax cuts' that shifted the tax burden from the wealthy to entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Not sure how that REALLY connects to the kids selling lemonade, though.

The kid was busted for not having a license.
A city permit that would have allowed the lemonade stand to stay open costs $50 a day. In contrast, a child’s water park ticket goes for about $27.

How many E-Coli cases has their actually been due to lemonade stands, or more...general....from people not washing their hands. Because I doubt the employees at the McDonalds down the street always wash their hands.

http://www.foodborneillness.com/ecoli_food_poisoning/
But, please, do make more unfounded remarks about McDonald's employees, terrorist attacks, nuclear warheads, and everything but the fact that the kids were not in any way abused but told that they must stop.

Preventing Infection from E. coli Bacteria

Any food that you eat has the potential to be contaminated with E. coli bacteria. This is why it is important to take precautions in preparing food and before eating at restaurants. You should also be aware that E. coli bacteria can survive for several weeks on surfaces, so keeping countertops clean is important. Other simple steps you can take to reduce your risk of E. coli infection include:

Wash hands thoroughly before and after eating and after going to the bathroom
Sanitize all fruits and vegetables before eating by skinning them if possible and washing them before eating

Check with your local department of health to find out which restaurants in your area have had recent problems with sanitation
Avoid allowing raw meats to come into contact with other foods while cooking
Do not allow children to share bath water with anyone who has diarrhea or symptoms of stomach flu
Wash hands thoroughly after any contact with farm animals
Wear disposable gloves when changing diapers of children with diarrhea
Make sure ground meat (such as hamburger patties) reaches an internal temperature of at least 160°F
Avoid drinking any non-chlorinated water

Everyone needs the license not just the kids, go to NYC the license for a hot dog stand is like 2 grand not to mention they cap the permits at only around 3000. Try opening a business where you live then tel me about the bureaucratic crap you have to go through.

I didn't realise the police have an alarm that goes off every time there's a murderer or drug dealer around and tells them exactly where to go to find and arrest them.

If the kid had offered an IPO for his lemonade stand Boss Christie would have told Roscoe and the boys to lay off.
Crimes committed by Muslims will be a pan-Islamic plot and proof of Islam's inherent evil. On the other hand crimes committed by non-Muslims will merely be the acts of loners who do not represent their belief system at all.
The probability of one's participation in homosexual acts is directly proportional to one's public disdain and disgust for homosexuals.
If a political figure makes an accusation of wrongdoing without evidence, odds are probable that the accuser or an associate thereof has in fact committed the very same act, possibly to a worse degree.

Electrical Permit, Plumbing Permit, Construction Permit.....had to make sure that the facility complied with the North Carolina Animal Welfare Act, had to have each component of the facility signed off on. This includes plumbing, electrical, drywall & insulation, had to make sure that my facility was up to code for the DOT, Fire Department, etc. Had to be inspected by the City, County, AND State. and then I get surprise visits from the State at random intervals. All in all, it took six months to get my current facility up and running.

If the kids (girls btw) had offered an IPO they wouldn't even need to make lemonade. Just take the money, go to the water park, and plead legal incompetence to enter contracts.
