I can't really say. I have very mixed feelings on the subject. On one hand, I disdain most forms of violence with weapons as a sign of... well, lack of intelligence and/or small genitalia. But on the other hand, I understand that they do provide protection and are a hell of alot of fun to shoot. I say, illegal to carry while on foot unless on your private residence or a shooting range. Otherwise, store owners are allowed to have a gun, and you are allowed to keep a gun in your car.
This Debate is simply an exercise in Rhetoric. Truth is a fickle being with no intentions of showing itself today.

I would agree with this, but... the thing is that there aren't many situation where that would actually be useful. As long as you are on foot, crime usually comes from behind and up close. Barely any time to get the gun out of the holster, unlesss you are planning to shoot them.

Because only good people can get guns, right? I'd rather see either of those than 'Virginia Tech gunman kills dozens'. Society is not an arms race, guns just promote instability and violence and places without guns are almost invariably safer than those with them.

I really don't have a problem with conceal/carry... I just don't see much of a use for it.

Well, screw me in the ass and call me a Saudi, this has nothing to do with concel/carry when I am in favor of having guns in your private residence.

I carry a knife on me wherever I go just in case I need to defend myself. How can you take that away from me?

You can't. But the nice thing about a knife is that you can't go and murder a dozen people with it nowadays. Hard enough to kill one.

 You... patrol? Excuse me for a second. I think common sense is calling.*ring ring* *ring ring*

Hello? Yes? Oh, ok, I'll tell him.

Common Sense says that if you have to patrol your neighborhood to keep it safe, it is probebly safer for you to let everyone have a gun in their house. Not only that, but he also says that the chances of someone actually doing something when a crime occurs is slim due to the psycological occurance of the Pedestrian Phenomenon.

I like how all of these anti-gun people are talking about how gun ownership installs fear, and paranoia, and say things like "society is not an arms race" and advocate reduced crime, and then laugh at your for your clearly community-mindedness, and desire to protect the innocent. I say, fuck all those gun owners that don't want innocent people to suffer crime. After all, when you think about it, innocent people are most deserving of being on the receiving end of criminal violence.

I applaud that you take personal time out of any other activities that you may enjoy to help ensure the safety of your community. Good on you man.

If he's actually part of an organized group that patrols based on a legitimate authority, good for him. But it's really hard not to interpret everything as a childs power fantasy playing cowboy, even if the person in question is probably 3-4x my age.
