Culture isn't what defines a state... by that regard, the North East Jersey just outside NYC, NYC, and the local NY regions should be their own state... The NJ part near Philly and Philly + surrounding areas should amass itself into a state...

A state is an arbitrary line, not a cultural delineation. I see no compelling reason to split North and South Jersey, and that's from someone living in central Jersey.

It seems like you got caught up in all of the secession threads we've had. I can tell you didn't spend much time throwing this thread together. No, every state has different feels to it in different areas. Western Illinois feels a lot different than Chicago, Illinois. That doesn't mean the Chicago metro area should secede.

Having known MANY "South Jerseyans", I'll have to say no. A non-binding referendum was passed because parts of South Jersey thought the government wasn't treating them fairly. It has nothing to do with culture.

And I'm from Middlesex. Again, the idea of Jersey separating over cultural differences is stupid. Hell, we already consider ourselves North, South, and Central Jerseyans, what more do you want?

That is a rather silly reason for wanting a state to break and have a portion of it secede. As far as I know, all states have a portion of them that is rural. Should we have all states break and have said portions secede and become their own states or worse, their own countries?

Actually, Chile birthed Snookie, and the rest of the people on that show are from New York (except for one, I forget which, who's from my county).

In our local lexicon, folks like them are called Bennies, people from New York and its immediate North Jersey suburbs who invade our shores during summers and long weekends.

I would have cited some (marginally) more significant reasons. South Jersey roots for Philadelphia teams, while North Jersey roots for New York teams. Ethnically, the inbred Piney-folk in the South are distinct from the equally-degenerate Bennies of the north. The South rips off Philly's cheesesteak, while the North and the Central regions make pork roll (Talyor ham to Non-Jerseyites).

The only thing that Virginia has that is different is the most history(My opinion.) and that it's a commonwealth.

Yes. All states must be either urban or rural. No mixing is allowed. I also propose that all undeveloped land become their own states. Too long have they benefited from the taxpayers of the occupied lands!

I was born and raised in jersey, and I can say without a doubt secession/splitting is dumbest idea to come down the pike.
diversity of culture, of economic focus, and of development are a good thing, it is part of the reason NJ has so many things going for it.
NJ is a wealthy, diverse state where plurality and education are practically sacred virtues, why screw it up.
