Plus they only got to the semi-finals of the World Cup before that, they should probably just stop trying to qualify in the first place if they're going to make that shitty a showing. What a goddamn embarrassment to their country and to football in general. But please, whatever you do, don't get me started on the shit storm that was the last world cup. God forbid them only beating other teams by three goals. :palm: God forbid.
Ya'know, the sad part is that I was defending the English team. What with having 11 injured players (A significant number staying at home, of course), and historically simply being average-ish, which, for some reason, causes their supposed fans to belittle and practically insult the team at every opportunity. As opposed to supporting the players who are still available and hoping for the best. Recognising that they're the single-most hit team in terms of injuries, but trying, and supporting the same, anyway.

Lord knows, apart from Rooney, it's one of the more likable teams at the EC (I did put them in the semifinal in my 'Wishful Thinking' list, after all). A pity the same can't be said for the trash called 'England Fans'.

The suggestion that this is pretty shit behaviour on the part of said fans clearly goes over the head of the same, though.

English fans are the worst in Western Europe. I got harassed for wearing an Italy Cannavaro jersey there when it was not the Euro or the World Cup. Mind you I'm a 100lb girl I really don't understand why some 40 year old man has to take the piss. I could wear that in France and nothing like that would happen, even if Italy and France were playing each other. FCS.

Bullshit.

France has a serious football hooliganism, and how are they dealing with it? Oh wait, they're following the example set by England and Britain.

Spain has serious problems with racism. As does Portugal. England does not.

You don't see fans of English teams being shot by police as they chase down a fan of an opposing team.

To suggest England fans are the worst in Western Europe is nothing short of dishonest.

Its a damn good thing I was born in Rome then, isn't it. Point is, it shouldn't matter where I'm from, I should be allowed to wear what I want within the law and not get harassed while walking down the street. In most places if one saw a 40 year old man harassing a teenage girl in a completely unprovoked situation they would be concerned right?

Was it fans of an English team that clashed with French police in Nancy in 2006? Nope. It was Feyenoord of the Netherlands.

Was it English football that was stopped when a policeman was struck by an explosive in 2007?
Nope. It was Italian football.

Were 30 people injured in an English city in 2011 during riots after a match against Turkey ended 1-1.
Nope. That was Ghent, in Belgium.

Was the mob that chased down a fan of Israeli club Hapoel Tel Aviv and attacked a plainsclothes policeman who tried to protect him in a 2006 incident that ended with the death of one of the mob, from an English club?
Nope. That was fans of French side PSG.

Was it English fans making monkey chants at black players on an opposing team in a 2006 friendly?
Nope. That was Spanish fans.

I think Disserbia is talking about the casual nationalism that lets face it is pretty common in England fans. Racism is still there but not a pronounced as it used to be...in the stadiums. Outside...sorry but you will have no problem running into racist or nationalistic fuckwaffles.

At the end of the day your mileage will vary.

To get away from the English being, well, English, with all the many, many, many negative connotations of the term, Portugal, although losing, has impressed me today. Quite decent tactical cohesion, and once they figured out that hey, they actually had a shot at winning, Lord did they try.

Certainly a lot better than I expected them to be. Kudos for that.

I suppose it could be argued that this was in parts because Germany has apparently lost its ability to do a quick game - Özil and Khedira (The latter taking over Schweinsteiger's creative job) were seemingly despairing with how slow - not just physically, but mentally as well - their teammates were -, but OTOH, the defence has improved muchly, Hummels started to actually fit in at just the right time, and apart from Boateng, it looks quite decent, all things considered.

Schweinsteiger, Podolski and Gomez - despite scoring - are the obvious weak points (Although in fairness, Podolski tried). Having Gomez on the field pretty much means having one less man on the field, he does basically nothing apart from waiting and losing balls (Honestly, I suspect that the Portuguese defence started more or less ignoring Gomez at some point, figuring that he's harmless). Truth be told, I suspect that a 0 : 0 and Gomez being replaced with either Klose or Reus for the next game would've been preferable... Gomez as a starter is going to actually have negative consequences at some point. And pointless possession statistics nonwithstanding, a point for Portugal, although somewhat lucky, wouldn't have been particularly undeserved.

I haven't seen much of Gomez. He has a good record, but as u say...outside of scoring lol, he doesn't help out much.
Portugal deserved a draw, and Denmark did enough to merit their victory.

Netherlands deserved a point. Not 3, but 1. Anyway Portugal got lucky even though they lost. They could have been down three points to Netherlands and Germany, but they're not.
