Seven more games to go yet. Just means you'll pretty much have to max out against Lebanon and Qatar.

I can see Uzbekistan getting a 3-2-3, good enough for the play-offs, probably against Iraq, who can't play at home. If they win that they'll have to play Colombia/Ecuador/Paraguay/Venezuela, and I can't see them winning against any of them :|

Venezuela beat Argentina. Although I'll admit, they are the most beatable team with a chance to qualify.

They also drew with Colombia and Uruguay, both ranked higher than them, the latter the best South American team. That's 3 games.

If this keeps going on, I may actually give England a chance to make it into the quarterfinal, simply because the press with for once - just this once - not pretend they're a competitive squad, taking a significant burden from the players.

If we are lucky and stay cohesive tactically and with a pretty big miracle to boot we might make it to the quarters...

I think you have a point about the press...but more to the point is that the 'WAGS' are not accompanying the squad. That is something that should have happened years and years ago.

After all these injuries and suspensions, I don't think they'll make it out of the group stage.

Not that I'd ever wish injury on anyone, but shame it wasn't Terry, Downing, and Carroll instead of Cahill, Barry, and Lampard.

Who knows, maybe they can play some really ugly anti-football and get lucky on a set piece or something. Colombia and Ecuador would be the two ideal teams for them, I think - both can get themselves in trouble with tempers and fouling.

Four days until it all kicks off - must be about time for some fantasy football, no?

http://en.euro2012fantasy.uefa.com/

I've taken the liberty of creating an NS league, the code to join is 32766-61506.

I won't join. I once won a bet in guessing the matches of EURO 2000 right. Since then I do no want to lose my unbeaten status by simply not competing :p

Heh, but now you're picking players rather than results! Think of it as a separate competition :p

I was so going to join until I was asked which club I support. Which is Leeds United. Who have won in Europe in the past. Who are not on the list. Meaning I can't complete my registration.

I think I will be having words. Oh yes indeed.

I have similar problems here. Well, my team never won a cup in Europe (though they have won some matches). Worst thing is, for some reason ADO Den Haag is *in* the list. They ended up lower than my team this year. And Feyenoord is not in the list either. Feyenoord ffs. Also former cup winners.

Boycot.

Any chance the league admin can remove the Serrland team that is in there now? I stupidly forgot to write down the email address and now I can't get back into it.

See, I thought this at first, but then I realised its a bit of a flawed logical argument, because...

Press removes pressure from players by remarking on comparative lack of talent, thus removing traditionally heavy expectations.
Players feel less pressured, and are perhaps more likely to play well.
Press then remarks on this removal of pressure, and the positive effect it "might" have on the squad.
People buy into this idea and expectation rises.

People I've spoken to seem to be split 50/50 -- like usual -- over England's chances. They fall into two camps; "we're shit and won't get out of the group stage" or "yeah but there's no pressure and the younger lads will be hungrier so we'll probably reach the quarters"
