We now turn to national soccer with the OFC Nations Cup. I expect NZ to win and head off to another Confederations Cup.

Charlie Adam is out 'til next season with knee ligament damage.

Expect an upturn in Liverpool's form, starting this weekend.

Peter Drury - "Barcelona are the darlings of a continent, or even the darlings of the world"

Think I threw up a little bit in my mouth.

Also Peter Drury - "Messi makes anybody else's scoring record in La Liga pale in comparison this season"

Apart from, you know, a certain Portuguese who has the same number of goals? No?

Shit commentary annoying me already.

I must say ESPN has some great coverage here in the USA, even if it's just two matches a week or so. Ian Darke and Steve McManaman are a great pairing, once I get over how icky Macca's accent sounds.

Not playing? He was, as I recall, suspended for the away game and not selected for the home.

We lost to FUCKING ATHLETIC BILBAO TWICE! WHERE THE FUCK WAS CARRICK THERE?

Not playing in the first leg, in the second overwhelmed partially due to having no help from any of the other 10 players on the pitch (we had Rooney, Young, Giggs, and Park on the pitch and managed an impressively low 4 shots, for example) and partially due to having a somewhat off game and came off after about an hour (at the same time as Rio) for Pogba when it was clear we were out anyway.

So of the four games you cite, of 360+ minutes of football, Carrick played 63 minutes and you seem to find him at fault for the results in all four games?

Over the past few years, i have rarely seen Carrick do anything actually useful with the ball.

1. I don't see him at fault but he wasn't exactly carrying us either, and that's what we need.

2. I do watch the games with my eyes open, hence the word "watch".

How are you expected to carry a team if you're not on the pitch? Take it up with Fergie for not selecting him if that's your problem, not with Carrick.

Edit: why do I keep wanting to put Carragher instead of Carrick?

Athletic Bilbao are unbeaten at home since November. Barcelona need a 91st minute Messi goal just to draw with them.

I question the assertion that teams of Man Utd's stature require a single player to "carry" them.

we need 2 or 3 europeans with intl. pedigree and character that can step up for the big matches, particularly in europe, and not disappear in midfield. As I said Carrick is a good squad player, one of the best we have. I'd definitely keep him on my team sheet.

A bit embarrassed because of my MLS...

Colin Clark Suspension wrote:NEW YORK -- Dynamo midfielder Colin Clark has been suspended for three games by Major League Soccer and fined for directing a gay slur toward a ball boy during Houston's 2-0 loss at Seattle last week.

MLS commissioner Don Garber also ordered Clark to attend diversity and sensitivity training.

"Major League Soccer will not tolerate this type of behavior from its players or staff at any time, under any circumstances," Garber said.

The 27-year-old apologized on Twitter and said he will say he's sorry to the ball boy in person.

"I believe that he will learn from this incident," Garber said.

Clark is in his seventh MLS season, and second full season with the Dynamo.

"First of all, I want to apologize for what I did during the Seattle match. I had a chance to speak to the ball boy after the game," Clark said. "I'm sorry to everyone who I offended with that term. I intend to never use that word again in any context. There's absolutely no excuse for using that word.

"What I said doesn't represent me. It was out of character and out of line. I made a huge mistake by using those words, and I truly regret that."

I was hoping to see them go with about twelve games or so.

Using gay slurs is bad enough, but the kicker for me is that he directed it AGAINST A 13 YEAR OLD. Come on MLS, this punishment is a joke. I know you don't want to bee seen as too intrusive in a league that's only a bit over a decade old, but come on now, when it becomes clear that Houston wasn't going to punish him in-house it's really appropriate for the league to come down on him.

Oh well, good to know I can berate a 13 year old ball boy and only get a nice 3 game break. Good chance to rest the legs, innit?
