^ So he's basically Man Utd's answer to Andrea Pirlo?

EDIT: for the record...
Pirlo's stats, according to juvefc.com; 1 goal, 6 assists, 85.5% pass completion
after 11 games, he had 54 tackles according to goal.com
can't find an interceptions stat right now.

Carrick is just a bit more attractive than Pirlo, though, which we all know is the best way to judge the merit of a footballer.

Gareth Bale you handsome devil you.

Yeah, me either, but of the two I'd go with Carrick. Pirlo physically reminds me of Carlos Puyol, who is my go-to definition of ugly.

Peter Beardsley just looks like the second coming of a sadly less mustachioed Willie Pettigrew:

Yes, but:
1. all of carricks passes are sideways
2. he takes forever on the ball
3. he can't run at a defense
4. he can't shoot
5. he is slow as fuck

Yes, but:
1) Only one of those things is true.
2) It's the fourth one.

I point you in the direction of this post, this post, and this post.

If Carrick was Spanish everyone would be creaming themselves over him.

If he were Spanish I'd call him boring, not bad. Although I don't really know who he is.

Is he still even in England? I remember him at Blackburn but that seems like it was ages ago.

2. carrick takes a lot of time on the ball, don't even lie
3. last time you saw carrick pull a move on the edge of the area, burst into he box and hit it in from 16?
4. last time you saw carrick beat a defender to a loose ball, and then run past a defender?

He's gone to Spurs. I don't think it's permanent though and he doesn't seem to get much game time. He was on when Muamba collapsed and the TV One Sports pointed it out right at the end. It was pretty much this, look here's Ryan, see how close he is to Muamba, yeah. Disgusting. TV3 was much better behaved.

2. so does Pirlo (sometimes)
3. I cant recall seeing Pirlo ever do this.
4. Or this.

...these things are not what makes a player good.
Granted, if Carrick didn't have a good passing range and a reasonable rate of intercepting/breaking up play, you'd have a point. But he does.

I still don't think he's that effective unless he has the right support players around him, because (like Pirlo) he's simply not good enough to do both the creating and the destroying at once -- don't think many players ever have been, tbh -- but his influence from deep shouldn't be counted out. And if Man Utd win the league, Carrick will have been a big reason why. Same goes for Juve, Pirlo and Serie A... or perhaps Pirlo will be the reason Milan don't win the league over there. Either way, the point stands.

In addition, I'm not sure why its a bad thing if most of a player's passes are sideways. Isn't that what Deschamps did for the most part, en route to I dunno... winning pretty much everything as a player? In fact, isn't that also what Makelele mostly did, while effectively redefining the role?

#1 is wrong. Some of them are backwards. :p

Seriously, he's not specifically a creative or attacking midfielder. 2-5 are true of Scott Parker, but he's one of the best midfielders in the EPL.

Yes, but we don't fucking need a scott parker. We need a david silva, an andreas iniesta. Somebody who can bring goals, and skill to the midfield.

Late last night
While we were all in bed
Miss O'Leary left a lantern in the shed
When the cow tipped it over
She winked her eye and said
It'll be a hot time
in the old town
tonight!
FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!

Alright Chicago, good home opener. Shame about last week, but that was unlucky. Still quite pleased with the way the team has looked early on. A bit of patience in taking the ball through the middle every now and then would be nice, but with the way the wingers have been hooking up with the strikers lately that's not a big concern at the moment.
