I smell a massacre. There won't be Kanu and Gakpe on the pitch this time.
Honestly, I thought Hannover had decent chances of coming far even before they kicked out Sevilla. And thus far, I've been proven right quite nicely. Consequently, I also don't believe that Hannover will get massacred.

... But Atletico is still a monster, and this is the first time I'm honestly doubting Hannover's chance of getting any further.

I played football today! Actual football, on a pitch, with other people, and everything! First time in so long.

They were all clearly taking it easy on me at the start because they thought I'd be shit (you know what guys are like if they're playing sport with a girl).

So, anyway, we were playing 7-a-side, first to 20, and it lasted about an hour and a half. I'm not a big fan of running, really, so I sat kinda deep and played a Pirlo-esque role with occasional forays up the left in support, Schweinsteiger style. I'm right-footed, although not bad on my left, but I prefer being on the left to cut in/for the different passing options being right-footed on the left gives you. After about 10 minutes they started taking me seriously because I'm actually not bad at football. Scored three and got 6 assists, so I can take some credit for nearly half our goals (we won 20-19), which is cool. Some nice wee touches and flick-ons, and a few great passes, and one absolute peach in particular when I took the ball down on my knee and then flicked it across the D on the volley for someone to finish.

So, yeah. So much fun. I need to play more often.

I can't remember the last time I played any sport, especially soccer. I used to play quite regularly at school, in best versus the rest matches often. The best had maybe seven or eight people and we had twice that and still rarely won. Of course we were playing on a hockey field and not a full sized one at that.

I think everyone does. Small-sided games are a lot more fun than full 11-a-side too, imo. Less distance to traverse etc etc and its easier to read the game, so things tend to happen faster, I find.

Good stuff anyway :)

Fabrice Muamba collapses on pitch during FA Cup match.

Tottenham's FA Cup game against Bolton Wanderers has been abandoned after Trotters midfielder Fabrice Muamba collapsed and stopped breathing.

Medics spent 10 minutes trying to resuscitate the 23-year-old on the field before the players were taken off by referee Howard Webb. BBC Radio 5 live senior football reporter Ian Dennis says the English midfielder is fighting for his life. The score was 1-1 when he collapsed with no players close-by on 41 minutes. Medical staff gave Muamba mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and tried to revive him with a defibrillator. In total six medics were treating the player.

Both sets of supporters chanted Muamba's name as he was taken off the pitch on a stretcher. ESPN reported that he was not breathing as he was taken down the tunnel. The former Arsenal midfielder has been taken to hospital, accompanied by manager Owen Coyle and club captain Kevin Davies. Referee Webb called the visibly shaken players off the field after consulting with Coyle and Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp. Minutes later the match was abandoned. Soon after the incident, messages of support flooded in for the former Arsenal man.

England international Jack Wilshere, who played with Muamba at Bolton, tweeted: "Hope Muamba is okay. Thoughts with him." Middlesbrough defender Justin Hoyte, who played in the Arsenal youth team with Muamba, said: "I seriously hope my best friend in football is OK. Stay strong bro [sic] please please stay strong. God is with you remember that."

Muamba joined Wanderers from Birmingham City in 2008 and has made 130 league appearances for the club. A Bolton spokesman said: "Fabrice Muamba has been taken to hospital following his collapse. There is no further information at this time."

Wow, just don't know what to say really. Got in from the Blackpool game and started to watch this and it was just horrible. Nobody was near him, he just collapsed. Thoughts have to be with him and his family really.

Shit :( Hope its not another Foe...

BBC Radio 5 live chief football reporter Ian Dennis at White Hart Lane: "When the medical staff arrived, Fabrice Muamba's face was on the turf. They quickly turned him over and within seconds were putting white pads and defibrillator on him. It was quite clear to everyone that he was fighting for his life. If he does pull through it will be down to the quick actions of the medics."

It really is. A young father, recently engaged, at his prime - I'm overjoyed to see that he's stabilized.

I just watched the footage of the ESPN broadcast from WHL on youtube. I won't post the link her, lest I run afoul of the prohibition on distressing/disturbing content, but it's amazing just how quickly everyone on the pitch and in the stands grasped how serious a situation it was.

I remember back in 2007 when Phil O'Donnell died during the match between Motherwell and Dundee - he had cardiac arrest of some sort and collapsed and was almost immediately taken away in an ambulance. That's something that sticks with me still - I can't imagine being in the grounds and seeing something like that happen.

Best of wishes to Muamba, though, and strength to his family, friends, and loved ones.

"Someone said 'football is more important than life and death to you' and I said 'Listen, it's more important than that'." - Bill Shankley.

Things like this remind you that a pithy quote means squat.

My thoughts are with Muamba tonight.

They absolutely seemed the part. Especially stopping chanting his name so the medics could hear and work when it became clear that things were more than just serious but indeed critical and life-threatening*.

*judging by the video I saw, mind.
