Che, due to his impeccable passion for cigars.

Aprendimos a quererte
Desde la histórica altura
Donde el sol de tu bravura
Le puso cerco a la muerte

Aquí se queda la clara
La entrañable transparencia
De tu querida presencia
Comandante Che Guevara

Vienes quemando la brisa
Con soles de primavera
Para plantar la bandera
Con la luz de tu sonrisa

Tu mano gloriosa y fuerte
Sobre la historia dispara
Cuando todo Santa Clara
Se despierta para verte

Seguiremos adelante
Como junto a tí seguimos
Y con Cuba te decimos
Hasta Siempre, Comandante

The poll percentages make no sense on a multiple-choice poll.

Edit: I voted for Subcomandante Marcos and James Connolly.

I can't say I'm fond of the man, but that's a wonderful song.

Leftist Latin American music has a lot of gems.

Trotsky, definitely.

He was wrong, but he was also honest and probably the only one of the RSDLP(B) who was not inclined to abandon the purity of his beliefs for power for its own sake.

Passionately devoted to his ideology, unwilling to compromise, and intellectually honest. One of the few collectivists worthy of respect.

I always had a thing for Trotsky.

Fuck Che, though. I can't stand him. He was a god damned monster.

V.I. Lenin, though I'm also partial to Ernst Thälmann and Rosa Luxemburg. I like Walter Ulbricht, Nikita Khrushchev, and Erich Honecker, though they certainly are not revolutionaries in any sense of the word. Maybe "quality apparatchiks" would be a better word for them.

One of the many negative consequences of Stalin's atrocities is that lesser monsters like Trotsky and Lenin get a pass. They shouldn't. They were instrumental in establishing the Bolshevik dictatorship and in implementing the atrocities securing its domination.

Che and Trotzky.

No doubt.

There's a difference between one who does it for naked power for its own sake, and one who does it because he honestly believes it's the only way to make a better world (however wrong he may be).

Trotsky was the latter.

They are just two sides of the same coin.

And Trotzky wasn't an angel, neither was Che.

That is a fair point. But I'd still be inclined to go with the communist revolutionaries with less blood on their hands.

Indeed, even if you don't agree with them. I grew up listening to Pablo Milanés, Silvio Rodríguez, and other "trovadores", most of leftist ideas, but really talented. I like most of the songs...Even if I do not like the ideas too much...(Well, I am not sure if I don't like them, at least I don't like how they have worked so far).

Mao. He was a dick and not a very good leader, but he managed to unify China, establishing a government that's still in place today. You've got to respect that.

Pete Seeger, ladies and gentlemen...wonderful talent wasted on such atrocious ideas.

Marx should be on this, because it would acknowledge the revolution of ideas involved.

Pete Seeger abandoned Stalinist delusions early enough for me to be able to appreciate his work without feeling guilty. Unlike, say, Ernst Busch, or the various Cuban musicians.

But I think we may differ on which ideas we count "atrocious." ;)

Leon Trotsky. Of all the souls I've encountered in my travels, his was the most.....human.

Yeah, well, environment and civil rights doesn't seem to be atrocious, right?
