Oh... and that would be Catholicism. I was confirmed so I had to sit through this.

Makes no sense, as it is not supported in the bible anywhere. Not only that but that really means that you worship three versions of God, since the "Father" is god himself.

The same God, but three different 'images' of Him. Like seeing a plan view, front view, and a side view of an object. They are all aspects of God, but three ways of describing him.

On October 13, 1307, a day so infamous that Friday the 13th would become a synonym for ill fortune, officers of King Philip IV of France carried out mass arrests in a well-coordinated dawn raid that left several thousand Templars — knights, sergeants, priests, and serving brethren — in chains, charged with heresy, blasphemy, various obscenities, and homosexual practices. None of these charges was ever proven, even in France — and the Order was found innocent elsewhere — but in the seven years following the arrests, hundreds of Templars suffered excruciating tortures intended to force "confessions," and more than a hundred died under torture or were executed by burning at the stake.

Worse... because they are three seperate things yet are apparently the same. It's a contradictory philisophy because it can only be done one way.

Long Answer about my religion, lol

Postby Newtamander » Fri Jul 08, 2011 10:32 am

I've been confirmed and raised as a Lutheran throughout my life. My immediate family is not overtly religious, but my mum confirmed me just because she was confirmed as was her mother-my grandmother. Once I was confirmed, I immediately ceased going to church because I felt conflicted with my feelings.

I know Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, and all those prophets and whatnot existed. There's evidence they did.

I believe that the Bible, Torah, and Quran are basically kind of like written diaries of the history of the Middle East, but worshiped as being the Word of God and prophecy of future Armageddon, whether or not that will actually happen :? .

I believe that people who fight over which religion is right or wrong is just pointless. As my World History teacher quipped "what is religion but a group of people who share the same ideas of how the world works and came into being?"

That's basically all religion is. With ceremonies and prayers and worship.

Some very cynical people scoff and go "oh look at those Christians (or whatever) . Living in their fairy tale ! Ha ha ha!" Yes, because you atheists know SO MUCH MORE than they do.

What those hard-lining atheists (not all but those few who are so .. stubborn) believe in, like science could disappear beneath their feet as well. In the 1400s people believed that the body was composed of four humors. Scientists now know this is folly and just pure jibberish. But what of today's medical "breakthroughs" and "theories"? Maybe a hundred or thousand years from now, OUR ideas would be scoffed at, just as we have scoffed at our ancestors' beliefs. There really is no room to say "my ideals are better than yours".

On another note, I know that Wicca and Paganism is not a subgroup of Satanism. Wiccans don't believe in an embodiment of evil like Satan is supposed to be in Christianity and other monotheistic religions. They believe in Karma and that the Great Goddess is part of everything and makes everything. They value harmony, love, and respect towards the elements and nature and the ancient gods worshipped in days of old. Satanists also get a bad rap. They basically, as far as I read into it, embody the 70s culture: If it feels good, do it. Live life with no regrets. And both Satanism and Wicca are against child abuse (the RIGHT Wicca and Satanism. There are other subgroups , like other subgroups and branches of popular religions, which get the basic and most important teachings skewn to fit their needs).

I hope I don't seem like rambler.. just a little more.

I can't seem to give up my Christian beliefs. Basically I believe that Jesus is a model to live up to, don't hate me on that. I believe that what you do will come back to you (Hinduism, Buddhism a bit, and Wicca share this) also known as Karma.. I try to live in balance. And like the Taoists , I try and usually succeed in not associating myself in petty , nonsensical things like "Oh my GAWD are those new shoes?! Justin Bieber is soooo cute  " . I only live to pursue knowledge and become a more intelligent and wisened person with each passing day.

Exactly. But we will change our views based on the evidence that is presented. Science is malliable. Religion is not. That is why I "believe in" science. It's going somewhere. And I hope that our theories are scoffed at in a thousand years time. You wanna know why? Because that means we've made progress. And religion? Religion has made no progress. They had a long time to change for the better, and fucked it up royally... but their time is over now. OVER.

Not exactly.
Brahmā, Vishnu and Śhiva are still separate entities with different Wills
In any case, the Holy Trinity would be like a reduced or simplified version of the Ten Sephirot. They are to some extent separate entities, but in the end they form One Singel Will.

Though I have found that Hinduism and Christianity have a LOT in common (which makes me like Hinduism even more)

There both mythology to me.

Well, while I don't see mythology in every part of my religion (Roman Catholic), I do recognize (unlike some) that parts of the Bible are clearly not historically accurate, let alone truthful.

I, for instance, don't believe in all the Adam and Eve, or THE Apple, or the Garden of Eden, or Cain and Abel. Those parts, as well as many others, I look at them as metaphors, and interpretate them through the context in which they were written.

EDIT: My own mother was a Catechesis teacher at a private Catholic school, and even her believed that the Book of Genesis is mostly metaphor.

I see Jesus as a metaphor as well. Of one of those doomsday phrophets, sitting next to the beggar who is jingling his styrofoam cup shouting at the top of his lungs... "CHANGE! YOU GOT ANY CHANGE!?"
This Debate is simply an exercise in Rhetoric. Truth is a fickle being with no intentions of showing itself today.
