Apparently, there's been a little row in the West of Germany, in NRW to be precise.
The Green party has put up posters for the local elections coming up depicting a black bum with white hands grabing it, and the slogan "The only reason to vote black" on them... and there's been an outcry.
It's been called sexist, and racist.
For all those confused, the conservatives in Germany are associated with the colour black.

Now, I don't think it's one of their cleverest poster ever... but racist? Sexist? I don't see that.

Um. I'm sympathetic to the Greens. I like dissonant messages (which make the electorate think, not simply obey their prejudices.)

But that looks like a bad idea. The association of conservatives with the colour black and the use of a "black" model in the image, is exactly the kind of racial stereotyping I would expect a "green" party to oppose.

You do have a point there... they used to be the only party in Germany to ever get my vote, but in this case they've sacrificed integrity for wit. If the CDU/CSU had brought out a poster with a similar pun, the Greens would have been the first to cry bloody murder over it. The Greens have a long history of having really good election posters, getting a lot of content into a slogan and a picture and being funny in the bargain. But this one... not so much I think.

Black - Conservative
Red - Social party
Yellow - Liberal
Green - well, green
Blue - extreme right, nationalist

Yeah, I'm getting it now. If I saw it on bus shelters and billboards a few times, I would have time to think about it and get it for sure.

I bet there is a second meaning, to do with choice not vote, in "der einzige grund" (the only grounds) shwarz zu wahlen (black you (I'm guessing: choose.))

If it was translated as "the only reason to choose black is 'cos they're hot" I would still have a problem with it. It's like saying "oppose the election of Red Indians, 'cos they're red and therefore must be commies."

For me it was a combination of the white hands being delicate and the nail polish, certainly not definite, but a good indication...
