Depending on what the law defines as "contract" (marriage isn't a contract where I am), but it's a good concept.

Listen people, if gay men and women want the same opportunity to be miserable with one partner for the rest of their lives let them be. We ask to please keep church and state separate but why is it that when people bring up the identity of marriage people say "It's disgusting, God made marriage between man and woman... well no god made marriage to create procreation of his people. And technically It is a sin to have sex with out the intent of having a child, but it's not a sin to love another human man or woman. And THUS under church law marriage is completed by the act of two people having sex and consummating the marriage. SO..... gay men and women in turn are screwed cause they would be sinners everytime they Bow Chicka Wow Wowed... but then again so would all you condom and birth control users and mind you the church tells you you can absolve all your sins so whoopty doo. POINT IS PEOPLE, IF THEY WANT TO MARRY A SHOE OR A SQUIRREL OR EVEN A HORSE... let them. It has no affect on your life. Let the gays get hitched

Hah, no. If my opinion is that we should kill all Christians, you'd stop me with "hey, that's not right! I disapprove of your statement!"

But if I say that we should allow gay marriage, you'd say "no, it should be banned and you have to respect my opinion."

Ah, you see, there's your mistake - you're under the impression that this is a moral, religious, or opinion-based debate.

It's not.

The Constitution guarantees equality before the law. The institution of marriage is not being equally observed in the eyes of the law.

The Constitution is the arbiter.


Thus half of this debate is fact-based - marriage WILL become equal, because the Constitution demands it - and the other half is based in opinion and prejudice. The former does not have to allow the latter any respect.
