If you can't deal with these legit reasons get off this thread.

"legit reasons".
There is never a "legit reason" to hate an entire country of people. Never.

It's all about perception. Someone may find their reasons incredibly legitimate.

If it feels like the entire nation is party to your oppression (for example), why wouldn't you hold the nation accountable?

because it isn't "why does the world hate the people of the us" or "the millitary of the us" Or "The exports of the us" it's just "THE US" Which means it's generalized to the entire nation. And yes the legitimency may varry on your point of view but a reason like "Because I like corndogs" is not legit rather than "because they invaded this country" is. As long as it is a fact or strongly willed opinion which has/canbe or will be supported it should count as a legit reason.

Perhaps I would, but I shouldn't. It's wrong to make sweeping hateful generalizations about millions of people. That's something most people learn as young children.

America has done things I'm ashamed of, I'll readily admit it. But that doesn't bring us together, as a nation, does it? Because I'll wager that if you ask an American leftwinger what shameful things our country has done, he won't say the same things as me. Chances are, he and I will be ashamed of completely different things. I'll say I'm ashamed America withdrew from Vietnam in 1975 and abandoned the South Vietnamese regime and its supporters to their fate. But an American leftist might see no wrongdoing in that; he might say the really disgraceful thing was meddling in a civil war in the first place. Some might even claim the Saigon regime's supporters got what they deserved. One man's atrocities are another man's praiseworthy deeds, and vice versa.

Which is a wonderful value judgement to make when you're not the kid born with birth defects because of American weapons of mass destruction.

You can see how the cycle of hate perpetuates, can't you?

You understand why things like the problems of Northern Ireland don't just miraculously evaporate?

I don't think I said that.

I'm saying that people have reasons that are entirely legitimate, that justify to them holding the whole nation accountable.

Now I get what you were saying, though that doesn't change the fact that it's wrong.
The real trouble rests on the fact that most people in the world are ignorant and quick to make judgements.

Not so much, it was your generalisation of how ignorant and quick to judge 'most people in the world' are that strikes me as amusing.

Years of experience in one small area. One small area that you used to judge a huge portion of a huge country.

A Few reasons:

A) America is a powerful nation and people are jealous and fearful of power, when China becomes number 1 in the near future people will start hating them more

B) America is slightly condratictory: "Land of the Free" yet it has less political freedoms than ancient monarchies such as Britain and Norway
and that some races are still treated less fairly in the US

C) American culture is tad annoying... why the hell did you make rap a large scale thing?!

D) Most of your tourists are stupid, I have experienced two examples the last time I went to London, one of them were:
"How dare they take my camera away!" when on the enterance to the crown rooms are signs saying: No Photography and another one was that an American asked me where the London eye was... when she was under a signpost.

I am not against America but sometimes I must admit, you lot annoy me a bit :/ Sorry
