The democrats have controlled the legislative branch since 2006 and nobody considered us to be in a emergency with our healthcare until the President said so. The Republicans had control for 6 years including the year of 9/11/2001 and all the business that followed.
Most Americans genuinley feel there are bigger problems out there then expanding the current goverment.

My gut feeling (admitted up front) is that the most outspoken people against health care reform, citing government's poor performance on other things, as also the same ones loudly crying, "America is the greatest nation on Earth!"
How can that be? How can the US be great at anything, given that it's government is incapable, incompetent, pitiful, and pathetic? To note the MANY things that the US government does so abysmally, why have we not just disintegrated and self-imploded many, many years ago? How could We The People continually allowed such a bunch manage our nation and our Treasury decade after decade after decade?
Or is this _really_ a case of, "Well, maybe they're not that bad"?
Ah, a liberal with the "America is weak" mentality, surprise, surprise. America is superior militarily and economically to any other nation and that is a fact, you can't dispute it, you can't say it's Conservative lies. It's a fact. Look at the statistics.

There has to be a problem first. You have to remember that since 1996 the US has seen unprecedented wealth and a very strong economy. Why fix something that so many people are happy with.

Maybe because of people like myself and the 50 million like me who aren't happy with it. Some of us haven't been sharing in the wealth, particularly over the last eight years.

At least 15 million of you are illegals and don't count. Many more of your 50 million would probably like to spend their money on something else besides healthcare.

15 million? Gee, I thought it was only around 11 million. And the ones who spend their money on something other than health care contribute to the high cost because when they fall off their mountain bikes or get into a car accident, their uninsured costs to the hospitals drives the cost up.

I'm glad you think America is so great. Surely such a great nation, the "superior to any other nation" in fact, would have NO problem figuring out how to manage a public health care system that all those inferior nations have had for years, right?
In other words, you can't have it both ways. You think America is great? You think America is better than other countries? Then why the fuck do you think America can't do something AT LEAST as well as other countries have been doing for decades?
So which is it?

At least as well as what? Have you seen the waiting periods for treatment in places like Canada or the UK?
And considering how horribly our government runs everything else, they should be having their responsibilities stripped away, not added on to.

I call bullshit. How can you even know that there are only 11 million? Did they sign in? I'll go with my numbers. The good thing is that many are leaving for the greener pastures of home, now that the economy is down.

What did you do, count em?
No, I have been following this since several cities and states, especially California, have gone broke.
Many of the problems that deal with how expensive healthcare is should be solved before anymore talk of a bigger goverment run program continues.
