Most Americans genuinley feel there are bigger problems out there then expanding the current goverment.

I agree, the Democrats are not innocent nor blameless (and quite possibly dead guilty, although this is based on my own suspicions). But as you stated, the Republicans did have a chance (6 years worth of time) to do something, yet still did not.

The problem with what "Most Americans think are bigger problems" doesn't necessarily translate to being fact, or for that matter right.

O rly?

Dude, I did a quick google of "2006 democratic party platform health care" and came up with hits right off the bat. The freaking TEXAN Democrats said, in their platform, that "The current American health care system is failing the American people," and "Texas Democrats support comprehensive reform to provide guaranteed access to affordable health care for all Texans and Texas small businesses." And that's goddam TEXAS, so just imagine what the queers in Massachusetts were saying.

Don't get me wrong, the Democrats are failures in most things, but it's BS to claim that they haven't been harping on the need for health care reform for years. They have, they just suck at getting shit done.

My gut feeling (admitted up front) is that the most outspoken people against health care reform, citing government's poor performance on other things, as also the same ones loudly crying, "America is the greatest nation on Earth!"

How can that be? How can the US be great at anything, given that it's government is incapable, incompetent, pitiful, and pathetic? To note the MANY things that the US government does so abysmally, why have we not just disintegrated and self-imploded many, many years ago? How could We The People continually allowed such a bunch manage our nation and our Treasury decade after decade after decade?

Or is this _really_ a case of, "Well, maybe they're not that bad"?

Ah, a liberal with the "America is weak" mentality, surprise, surprise. America is superior militarily and economically to any other nation and that is a fact, you can't dispute it, you can't say it's Conservative lies. It's a fact. Look at the statistics.

Is that really the only way to measure greatness? The military? Nobody is saying "we've got the greatest military on Earth" -- they're saying "we're the greatest NATION on Earth". Can you see the difference without resorting to parroting another Hannity-ism? I've never heard ANYone say "America is weak". Things need fixing, reform, or other attention, but who's used the word or the implication of "weakness", aside from having it fabricated from whole cloth by those looking to discredit people actually seeking to improve what needs improvement?

But you're right about one thing: it isn't conservative lies. It's one step short: misinformation and misdirection designed to mislead and upset their supporters into acting irrationally out of imagined "fear".

15 million? Gee, I thought it was only around 11 million. And the ones who spend their money on something other than health care contribute to the high cost because when they fall off their mountain bikes or get into a car accident, their uninsured costs to the hospitals drives the cost up.

Outright lie. There aren't even 15 million illegals in the country. There never has been. I sourced that and challenged you to refute it. Instead you ignored it and now respew the misinformation. It's now officially a lie. The bullshit flag goes up.

I've talked to people from places like Canada or the UK. They seem really surprised by how long *I* generally have to wait for an appointment here in the US.

Not even. Of the uninsured in american, 80% are citizens. The remaining 20% is made up of non citizens, both illegal AND legal immigrants. At best, the number of uninsured in this country who are non citizens is about 9 million, less than 2/3 of this nonsensical "15 million" figure.

And that 9 million is ALL non citizens, legal and illegal immigrants alike. In fact, I'm willing to bet that it doesn't even include all illegal immigrants, as they have a tendancy to NOT show up in the census in the first place.

Wow. I didn't realize that picking lettuce paid so well that those illegals could afford PCs and internet connections, much less are literate enough in English such they can voice their opinions so well in forums like these. Couldn't detect the Hispanic background in their posts. (Otherwise how would we _know_ they were dissatisfied?)

BTW, where do you get that 15 million figure? Last I heard was just over 12 million.

So by your logic, if we drive the economy down far enough, all of the illegal aliens will leave. That must be Obama's evil plan, to make the economy better so his non-citizen allies can rush into our great nation and ... well, I'm sure he's got a scheme to make money of the whoesale destruction they'll wreak. Many of the problems that deal with how expensive healthcare is should be solved before anymore talk of a bigger goverment run program continues.
