Well, if you're American you have a whole host of surnames to choose from: Madison, Tyler, Taylor, Curtis, Forrest, Mason, Jackson...

But I assume that doesn't really apply outside the Americanised Anglosphere.

Okay, but it's still stupid. MacKenzie (McKenzy/Makenzie/however else it's being butchered like haggis) is a damned surname and sound utterly pretentious as a given name. Others on this intolerable list include:

Cooper
Tucker
Jackson
Grey/Gray/Grayson
Madison/Madisen (for fuck's sake)

Then there's just plain silly names.

Tortured spellings of real names: Kaylee/Kalee/Kayleigh/Keili/Kayli/et-freaking-cetera.
Unique (and the assorted misspellings).
La--a, which is pronounced "la DASH uh", I shit you not.
Espen, and yes, it's after ESPN...how fucked do a parent's priorities have to be...?

Seriously folks, there are enough names in history and antiquity to never need to do this to children. Stop it, please.

Coal...not that bad since it is a homophone of Cole.

Frank Zappa's names for his kids were so weird they were great.

Did you know that Jude Law was named for "Hey Jude", the Beatles' song?

I like names that are real, that refer to a person or object or concept, and are not just made up out of random nice sounding syllables.

Like lets says Shraklayshtra.

But then if somebody names their child that, and that child becomes well known, then it is legit for the next helpless infant to bear it.

I have several...

Justin, Dustin, Ryan, Liam, Daniel, Jordan, Cody, Courtney, Ashley, Pete (Peter is good, but not Pete), Erin, girls shortening 'Alexandra' to 'Ali', Irish names (Sean, Siobhan etc.), any girls' names that are also flowers, any child named after some quality (Joy, Hope, Charity, Chastity etc.), to name the ones that come to my head straight away.

What's wrong with Irish names :meh:

How is Octavius a bad name?

Cos it should be Octavian

For some reason all the Julius's I've met have been Black. Black people give their kids the best classical and English names (Winston etc). No idea why native Anglo-Saxons would name their son Darren (for fuck's sake) over Winston.

I have heard form my cousin when she was in a catholic high school (and yes girls do get prego there out of wedlock regardless of religion). Some names were bizarre like some named their kid "Violence" (which is ok i guess) and the "@ sign" (yes that rite the "@ sign" is there real name). Few were insane like they literelly named this poor bastard "16 Bus Shelter" (ya like we needed to no where they were concieved in the first place). And so were so ridiclious that, that it was no longer a name, but a sentence instead like " Tequila Shequila Does The Hola Ho In Hawaii" (these must be the real fucked up parents). I feel so sorry for these kids. Im its ok to name yourself this, but dont do it to someone esle. Its embrassing and humlaiting.

Speaking of Shaun/Shawn, I also dislike the (generally Afro-American) tendency towards names that are preceded by a syllable, like LaShawn or LaToya or JaMarcus.
