Plane Crashes and the Hudson River

Postby Bergnovinaia » Tue Aug 11, 2009 10:26 am

Back in January a large comercial flight made a safe crash landing on the Hudson river after striking a flock of birds. Juts the other day a helicopter and small plane collided sending all of the passangers to their watery death in the Hudson river. One day it's a miracle the next day it's a tragedy. Ironic isn't it?

I would hardly call a safe crash a miracle.

You can call it whatever you like. I will call it a miracle though becuase considering planes don't usually crash in the middle of a freezing river and have survivors.

Mmh.

Another one about private flights: shortly after 9/11, a Cessna (iirc) crashed against the Pirelli Tower in Milan - it's still unclear if by accident, distraction, or will to suicide.

Maybe it's high time to enforce some serious regulation of private flights. Like, dunno, forcing them to have transponders, and to follow established routes and flightplans, as commercial airliners do.

Yes I do. Maybe you should ask news reporters that question who titled the incident "Miracle on the Hudson River."

not ironic. just tragic.

1 : an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs

So you think that God crashed a plane, but then went all willy nilly and decided to not kill anybody?
So instead of dying, they just all didn't get where they needed to go.

Cool.

Planes also don't usually crash...

Interesting, surprising, even amazing that they all lived? Sure. Miraculous? Not really.

And not particularly ironic that multiple crashes would occur in a spot with heavy air traffic, what with three of the busiest airports in the world within just a few miles (JFK is the 13th busiest airport, Newark is the 23rd, and the NYC system in general is the second busiest, only lagging behind London)

The Hudson River is like the Bermuda Triangle of plane crashes.
