Chopsticks

Postby Parhe » Sun Jun 12, 2011 10:49 pm

My family only use round chopsticks, even for disposable chopsticks. I also use metal chopstocks

The first sushi restaurant I ever ate ate made their own training chopsticks. The took a pair of regular disposable chopsticks, rolled a sushi order form into a very small cylinder, put it between them just a little bit below the big end, and rubberbanded them together. Worked like a charm.

I prefer square wooden chopsticks. Easier to control, and won't roll off the bowl.

I think more than the shape, the material of the chopsticks is what matters. I prefer the square shaped one for most dishes; they tend not to slip as much, especially when using plastic or metal ones. Now, a good pair of round wooden ones work the best, but there's like only one place in my area that has them. And in any event, I prefer wooden chopsticks to any of the more slippery varieties.

my favorite are the kind that are square on one end and round on the other

I prefer round chopsticks, since that's what I taught myself on--trained with M&M's at the theater I worked at, cause popcorn was just too easy. I can use the square ones too, but I prefer circular ones.

once you get used to them there are some kinds of things they're more useful for then spoons or forks. noodles are a good example. hachi and noodles are just made for each other. also for temporarily removing meat or vegetables from a broth they're being boiled in to cut them up finer so they can finish cooking sooner. i'm only familiar with the ones available in stores and restaurants over here (in the u.s.) which tend to be square on the top and round on the end. both the disposable ones and the bulk pack ones, in the stores near me, come that way. so i'm unfamiliar with the tips having other shapes.

I´d say, the circle ones are the better choice, if they´re slim, elegant and made of good material like ebony or ivory; it´s just a matter of style and elegance...plus, they´re more easy to handle. At the moment I prefer a pair of black chinese egg-shell finished with nice looking golden dragons on the hilt part, very slim and pointy.

...so you´re saying, that almost all asian people are "hipsters" ? Interesting guess, thinking of an one-hundred year-old chinese rice farmer eating his noodles as a "hipster"...

I ate at a restaurant that had, of all things, semi-circle chopsticks. I consequently murdered the owner of said establishment and left hsi body in the dumpster out back. The restaurant was then shut down by a health inspector and I'm typing this on a phone in a box in Rio de Janeiro.

The best type of chopstick is to use a fork, and to not be eating asian food at all, unless you're eating Indian food, which is the best asian food.
Or, better yet, eat a sandwich. No need for chopsticks or any cutlery at all.

I own a pair that are round at the bottom but as you go up become squares so they can be placed neatly on top of a bowl or table. Nifty huh?

Oh, well, it´s always funny to watch people who are to lazy to learn handling chopsticks and ordering their meals with a fork in an asian restaurant...

I've always preferred square wood ones. Food always seems to slip out of round ones and metal ones regardless of shape easier.

It isn't a real answer because 1) they didn't explain how chopsticks make Asian food taste better.

2) It is complete bullshit.
