Combine this with the recent arrivals not paying a myriad of taxes, this results in a great amount of wealth being siphoned out of the state to either the family of the laborer in the state, or elsewhere. Not a good thing when your state economy has been in the toilet since the Civil War.

That's what people think. In theory at least, filing taxes and claiming refunds (which they are due, due to low earnings) would have no effect as the IRS does not check legal status or share information with the USCIS.

Hmm rather nifty, though i am rather concerned that the IRS would undermine the INS, but Bureaucracy (bear in mind i skimmed this article).

Regardless i am unsure as to how many the figure "many" is in comparison to the illegal population. Is there an article you can find that has a more concrete estimate (or if it is in the article a quotation)?
