Named Woman Wants Anti-Abort Billboard Removed

Postby You-Gi-Owe » Tue Jun 07, 2011 9:39 am

Interesting… This guy was angry because he believes his significant other aborted their child (she claims it was a miscarriage). The woman’s name does not appear on the billboard, yet she’s suing because she claims he’s harassing her.

On the other hand, maybe he’s distraught over the loss and expressing how sad he feels? Maybe a pro-life/anti-abortion billboard is how he’s coping with this loss? It’s his free speech.

Man Angrily Announces His Ex's Abortion on a Billboard
June 07, 2011 07:00 AM EDT
A New Mexico man who was angry about his ex-girlfriend's abortion has put up a billboard denouncing her. The distraught woman claims to have suffered a miscarriage and is suing to have the billboard removed.
35-year-old Greg Fultz of Alamogordo, New Mexico is featured in the billboard, which reads "This Would Have Been A Picture Of My 2-Month Old Baby If The Mother Had Decided To Not KILL Our Child!" In the picture, Fultz is holding the outline of a baby in his arms.
A judge recommended the billboard be removed but Fultz's lawyer is arguing that removal of the billboard would be a violation of his client's right to free speech.

If it was a miscarriage and he's characterizing it as an abortion, then it might be libel.

Well, I don't think she's suing him for libel. The medical records would have to be seen. Also, she's not named in the billboard.

Even if it wasn't a miscarriage, It's still harassment and an all around douchey thing to do.

If he's on it and recognisable, then anyone who knows him probably knows (or can easily find out about, via gossip) his ex-girlfriend. So it is directly targeted at her and not trying to keep her identity out if it particularly hard.
Sounds like she has a point, and he is making statements he can't even back up

I don't see why harassment of an individual like this should be allowed to continue. If he wants to advertise a pro-life agenda then he should leave this woman out of it.

Wamitoria wrote:If it was a miscarriage and he's characterizing it as an abortion, then it might be libel.

If he's not identifying her then it might not be. But then, since he appears on the billboard, some people will recognise him and thus know who he's talking about. Don't really know.

And the obvious question... How does Obama tie into this?

Still, isn't trial by media wonderful? You can have no proof that your SO aborted a fetus and yet convince the public she did with a billboard.

If this is up where he lives, then people will recognise him. He's done nothing to conceal his identity, so the identity of his ex is not in any way protected

Really, what was this ignorant bastard thinking? This is slander! She didn't want the baby, and she would't have loved it, and the worst thing a parent can do is not love their child. She did the right thing, and now this ass-hat is treating her like a murderer. It's like arresting someone for rape even though he was doing CPR on a dying woman and had to take her shirt off.

I suppose it's like a family member you don't talk about anymore. These Anti-Abortion 'advert's are just bloody offensive. This advert completely ignores the mothers feelings about losing her child, it actually makes me pretty sick that someone could create this advert, someone would allow it to go on show and an organization would support such a view.

I'm pretty glad I live in Europe right now where such an advert would be banned.

This billboard is simply cruel in my opinion. But just because something is mean, offensive, or maybe morally incorrect to say doesn't mean they don't have the right to say it.

Isn't it technically violation of Freedom of Expression rather than Speech being he's not you know, speaking? I think it's bloody ridiculous either way, honestly. If he's distraught fine, be distraught quietly; if he's harassing her he ought to be ashamed of himself. If she aborted the child it was her decision to do so and she has to live with that, if it was a miscarriage it was and so be it. It shouldn't be taken to the courts either way, so long as he paid for the damn advertiser it's perfectly legal.
