And all people are good, balanced individuals. Intelligent, too.
Honestly, the crime itself is hilarious. The consequences may not be, but you're naive if you think most people actually care.

Probably not as valuable, and presumably you'd have less time because traffic doesn't exactly stop at night. Trains run on schedules, and I doubt it's hard to get a copy of one or figure it out.

Ehhh some trains do....some trains run on as needed basis. Passenger trains do run on a schedule, but freight trains is a mix of both scheduled and as needed.

From the sounds of it, the railway was used fairly often, which means that the tracks would have been shiny on top, indicating that line was still in use.
I don't know that people who rip up rails for the scrap money do this kind of forensic insight. They might have figured out that (at least going by the scrapper's quote in the article) they were making like $20 if they were the researching type...

Actually, by the scrap guy's statement it would have been $108-$135, not $20.

Hey now, you can go about moving the decimals over two spaces like they're 'supposed' to (there were two 900 pound rails, unless I got that wrong too) but I clearly don't truck with that kind wreckless nonsense...
