Under what grounds? The "damaged party" is her daughter, and she's perfectly capable of suing herself.

Anyone black could be offended if they thought the ad was calling referencing a black person' skin in a derogatory way. I don't think anyone else is though. Just Naomi Campbell and her mum. Just had a look at The Voice online: No mention of it

Silly Naomi Campbell. As your complaint proves, there is no such thing as bad publicity, especially when you are a talentless hack in a parasite industry like fashion and modeling.

I do not take being insulted kindly... I think I understand your meaningful violence. You have Samuraikoku's support.

It would also cost them a fortune in court proceedings to contest her claim.

Indeed. It's simply not worth the trouble.

There's a difference?

Aye. Really depends on whether those involved are being forced or doing something out of their own volition.

So it is racist to reference black people in chocolate commercials?

Don't you have an Italian word for 'Diva'? Divo or something?

Yes, but divo is masculine. Diva is the feminine form.

"Il Divo Giulio" is Giulio Andreotti's nickname. Just as "il Divo Cesare" would be a way to refer to the "divine Caesar".

About as racist as showing white people in milk commercials I guess.

They didn't say "Naomi Campbell" though. I bet it's full of "Naomis" in Britain.

But only one that gets name-dropped as a single name. For American equivalence, you could consider "Madonna" or "Britney".

are you british?

id suggest that ms campbell is the most famous naomi in the UK. (she may or may not be more famous than naomi judd in the US). and is the one most famous for being a diva.

it just seems cheap to use her name without her permission, legal or not.

I doubt Cadbury meant it as a racist attack. More likely they just put it out without thinking of the "black people are chocolate-colored" angle. A polite, "Hey, you know, that's a bit tacky; can you stop running that ad?" would have resolved the whole thing. No need to threaten a lawsuit. Naomi Campbell is a twit anyway.

Cadbury did the right thing, pulling the ad.

They did the right thing, because it means that Naomi Campbell won't get the attention she seeks from a lawsuit. Ms. Campbell will have to use other means to get attention, like her charm.

They should have pulled the ad because implying that their chocolate bar is demanding and unreasonable isn't appealing. But it seems like they weren't calling her a chocolate bar, but their chocolate bar a diva. But overall, this gets a kind of 'whatever.' I kind of get it, I don't agree, whatever. I'm more upset that trying to call a candy bar a 'diva' is an appealing idea.
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

It's hurtful and insensitive if it's her who's being targeted. Not the other way around - I thought you understood that. :D

Would that still be grounds for compensation? I think it shouldn't be, because anyone black could claim offense just to get the money even if they didn't care (no possibility of proof on that one).

Naomi is trying hard to better her image after her shambolic behavior at that conflict diamond trial.

She is a selfish, shallow, careless brat and her holier -than-thou attitude doesn't wash with me.

We should ban the Milky Bar Kid for being compared to White Chocolate!

I suspect there's a pre-existing agreement from 'the Milky Bar Kid', although you almost raise a good point, since the Milky Bar Kid was picked for certain phenotypical characteristics that could be considered racial.

I remember in the 80's there was a fuss about the casting of the Milky Bar Kid and how he always was a blond boy. Now they get around it by having EVERYONE be the mbk http://www.milkybar.co.uk/Adverts.aspx
