Man, these Austrians sure don't speak English...
Anyway, what are some funny names you have come across?

Actually, they DO speak English, along with German, and quite probably Swiss and a smattering of other languages from nations surrounding them.

What kind of silly names are Wollongong, Geelong, Kurrajong, Mullumbimby, Mittagong, Molong, Grong Grong, Goondiwindi Cabramatta, Parramatta, Wangaratta, Coolangatta, Jimcumbilly, Humpybong and Foul Bay?

Not to mention Blue Ball, Bird in Hand, Mount Joy, Intercourse and Paradise, all in Lancaster County in Pennsylvania.

Bangkok, Thailand.

How has no one mentioned that?

This nation should not be taken to be representative of my real-life views, nor should any of the nonsense I posted on here as a teenager.

Heh - back in Japan, at least in Osaka, that was something usually associated with the mentally ill - there was a noticable tendency for some mentally ill people to repeat train announcements letter perfect in a loud voice, often in sync with the actual announcements.

Anyway, a company is trying to market a light ale using the town. As someone pointed out, light or bright in German means "hell"... you can see where this is going.

Most of the 'cocks' in british placenames refer to cockerels. Cock fighting used to be hugely popular so got remembered in a lot of names.

I'm quite fond of Westward Ho! (the exclamation mark is part of the name).

I'm sure Dildo, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Climax, Saskatchewan have probably been brought up. One of my all-time favorite place names has to be Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha!. It's stupid, but it's also uniquely awesome.

I always sort of thought it was funny that Georgia (U.S. state) and Georgia (Country) had the same name. I can't really top anything already stated in this thread.

There's the capital, Wellington and Nightcaps which are names of actual places.
