Political Compass?

Postby Borvideke » Sun May 22, 2011 3:12 pm

I have a few questions about the political Compass.
1) What does Economic Left/Right: -5.22 and Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.48 mean? Like, does that mean Socialist/Communist/Capitialist etc...
2) What were your results? Do it reflect your actal party?

1. It means you're a dirty socialist.

2. No, it puts me as a right-wing type when I'm Centre-Left or about there.

1. It means you support government attacks on the economy, but you don't support government attacks on civil liberties.
2. I didn't take it because there are too many stupid questions which are irrelevant to my political views.

1. It means nothing it is just a stupid test.
2. Far Left and around a 5 or 6 on the Authoritarian scale. Since I don't have a political party it doesn't reflect shit and I once again state it is just a stupid test.

Any test that wanted to show what political ideology you are part of would take several hundred questions to even to become close to being adequate and even then it would not be very useful.

 One could say that. I find Mid-Left and Mid-Authoritarian is pretty common amongst more Right Leaning Third Position people I have run into. I find the Political Compass is just far too vague to draw anything useful from it. All I got from it is that I am extremely anti-capitalist and authoritarian so I learned nothing from it that I didn't already know. :p

It means you're a damn hippy.

My current political compass puts me slap bang in Lib Dem c.2010 territory. I'd vote Lib Dem quite happily but I'm thinking it'll be a wasted vote, so for all intents and purposes I'll be a Labour voter - meaning my political compass is nothing like my party's.

A few of the questions I couldn't strongly agree with the libertarian option.

The one about some criminals being beyond rehabilitation. Some people have very severe mental problems, and so I only put agree. Similarly, the one about "you don't choose your country, so it's foolish to be proud of it". While patriotism is foolish, my reasoning is different.

I'm very much in the Fascist Third Position as well - capitalism and communism both repulse me. Unfortunately, this test cannot come close to really showing that. Really, it'd have to be three-dimensional and have around a hundred very specific questions to really give an accurate presentation of one's views.

1. What everyone else said.
2. I like it's multidimensional spectrum, but I dislike the way they ask the questions. I think they should ask one's views on an issue rather than "Do you agree or disagree with this specific statement?" (a lot of the statements they give seem a bit strawman-ish to me as well). I'd also tweak their spectrum a bit, but not too much. I'm only a little off of where it put me.

Here's what I got:

I'm pretty sure I'm more Capitalist and Libertarian than that, but the vertical score got whacked because I'm in favor of a strong military.

Psssssh. It says that I'm far more libertarian than I am. Every time I take the test, it goes down a point or two.
