But we are threadjacking Archy's thread, so I shall present the Fort Pillow Massacre. The first time I heard of it, the image of injured enemy soldiers being smothered in their hospital beds came to mind.

The Archregimancy wrote:...A century later, that would take Europe into the Thirty Years War, so, yes, I suppose you're essentially correct.
You were trying to be funny? Don't you realise there's no room for humour in an NSG history thread?

There's even more humour when one's also historically correct! :D

Anyway: there's not just the Battle of the Bulge. There's also the Beaver War. And let's not forget the Peach War.

The most amusingly named event in history is the Fatherland Liberation War. Why? It is freedom vs. imperialists, get it? :p

It becomes funny when you imagine the events with Yakety sax running in the background.

Everything is funny when you set it to Yakety Sax, that doesn't count.

Damn... I had that one on the tip of my tongue, and had enough space on the poll to include it; just slipped my mind.

I agree that it's certainly a strong candidate, and should have been listed in the OP. My apologies.

The War of Jenkins' Ear is right at the top of my list. And invariably someone goes, "That's just part of the War of the Austrian Succession."

Who cares, I say? It's not like the War of Austria Succession wasn't made up of a bunch of other events.

Little Bighorn is mildly amusing.
The kind of middle-class mentality which actuates both those responsible for strategy and government has little knowledge of the new psychology and organizing ability of the totalitarian States. The forces we are fighting are governed neither by the old strategy nor follow the old tactics.
