I wonder how these names are given. They're sometimes so odd and don't even make sense when looked at.

I don't know about cities named after beers, but I know there are beers named after cities. I also know villages that are called 'Beers' (and I know people whose last name is Beers).

Why stop at cod?

There was also a Turbot War.

Man, is that an impressive European coalition array or what? And still, the Anglosaxons managed to win. Kudos.

Yeah, maybe, but "The Throwing-Guys-Out-The-Window of Prague" just doesn't have much of a ring to it, does it?

 I'm fortunate enough to have never taken Latin. I did take French, and in French "window" is "fenetre" so I'm not really at a disadvantage here. But for your average person who isn't fluent in a romance language, "defenestration" is a word which comes out of nowhere. When was the last time you heard of someone "fenestrated" or "fenestrating"? We say, "entered by the window."

It doesn't but that's my point. In fact, it doesn't really sound that amusing when you describe it that way. It's not the "Most Amusing Historical Event" in which case I think the Defenestrations would definitely be in the top. But it's "Amusingly Named Historical Events", so they shouldn't be.

Let's face it, War of Jenkins' Ear is the best one.
