Music bands that 'shoulda been a contendah'

A lot of my music taste is obscure. A lot of them... well, they were never going to make it big. Too odd, too underdeveloped. Such as The Very Things, or The Specimen.

But some, I feel they had the ability to be HUGE but never quite pulled it off.

- The Beautiful Deadly Children
- The Marionettes
- Punishment Of Luxury (Punilux)
- Katscan
- Acid Bath

What bands do YOU love, that you feel should have been more successful than they were/are?

Neutral Milk Hotel. They never made it big in their prime, and most people still haven't ever heard of them or their work.

I have some ANL albums. They were reasonably big, I think. Great band anyway.

Gotta admit, my first album by them was The Perfect Crime and I was like HUH WHA? when I got Scum :D

DFD is epic. Their best album is definitely "Anarchists of Good Taste". I you haven't heard of the band "The Kidney Thieves", look'em up too.

Same here, I don't know anyone around here that's heard of them, but with 3m Views for 'Electric Worry' on YT, one of their songs in a trailer for Left 4 Dead 2 (among other Video Games), and they're still making C.Ds.

Big Star's career in the 70s was severely hampered by delays and bad distribution. If that didn't happen, they probably would have been one of the biggest bands of the 70s.

They enjoy cult status now, but Alex Chilton was far and away one of the best songwriters of his time.

The Exploding Hearts could have had a great career if they hadn't all died in a van crash after their first album.
If My Bloody Valentine had stayed together after Loveless, British music in the 90s could have been a whole lot different.
Hüsker Dü should have been a lot bigger but I suppose Bob Mould has done alright for himself.
