Of course people can turn gay. Provided that people are clerics and gay are undead.

Oh. So it's a serious question. BOOOOORING. :(

Not really. You are what you are; It only matters how you identify.

Can people turn gay?

Hmm i'd say each individual is a unique case.
I myself would never be turned on by a male body no matter how sexy it looks. I like female bodies, i like boobs and pussy. I'm a heterosexual male. And for my own case, I don't think I can turn gay.

But who knows? May be there are those that are born gay? May be there are those who turned from straight to gay to bi to straight again to gay or to whatever.

I'd say each individual is a unique case.

I agree with this.

Though, I don't see why a person's sexuality must remain constant. And if it changes it changes.

I have seen straight people go gay and gay people go straight.

Somehow I don't think it's purely genetic. Given what seems to happen in at least some cases that doesn't really add up for me.

General consensus seems to be that its part genetic and part nurture. That said, sexuality is fluid; it could be one thing when one is young, and another when someone is older.

People can develop phobias and fetishes, and be relieved of them. They can do the same with all number of conditions, even addictions. I see no reason whatsoever for the case that sexuality is a fixed thing, and indeed have seen evidence against it in my friends.

I suppose it is possible for someone's sexual orientation to change since people's brains do change over time -- especially when we are young. I don't think people have much control over it, though. You can't just switch back and forth at will between being straight and gay.

With little to no scientific backing of any kind, I say with great certainty, "Sure." I can see people change their sexuality just as they change their political views, outlook on life, religious beliefs, etc. It's one more attribute about an individual that can be changed, whether by environment or by will.

i think it's possible that anyone can turn gay or straight, or even bi. My oldest friend was totally straight until just last year, now she's bi. I id as straight at least, but hey, if there's a fine looking dude nearby, of course I'd notice, how could anybody not? I don't know, sex and relationships are just wicked confusing.

I don't believe in a fixed "orientation". People's preferences exist along a spectrum. Under certain conditions and over periods of time, one's preferences can shift.

For the record I am a male with a strong female preference, but I wouldn't necessarily rule out a relationships with a man.

No. Just like you can't magically find a piece of art you hate beautiful, a homosexual can't find the body of the opposite gender attractive in a sexual way.

I do believe that the main reason that a person is attracted to one or both sexes is due to the various chemicals in the brain. Even after millions of years of evolution it's possible for a mutation or just the right pair of genes to meet up and produce an unusual and likely evolutionary disadvantageous effect in the person to be. I also assume that through the highs and lows of one's life the changing chemicals in the brain can plausibly cause such an unusual attribute as well.

Also, IIRC, my tenth grade bio teacher whispered pretty the same thing as the above to a curious freshman in the class, and as her and her friend (my eleventh grade bio teather) both like going to those big science conventions, I gotta figure they're both pretty much right.

How'd you know she wasn't bi before because of societal pressure?

Educated guess... We both grew up together... and know probably more about the other person than we care to admit.

I'm not certain there is a specific "gay gene". Genetics is far more complicated than that. It may be related to the expression (or lack there of) of a gene that is normally there happening a little differently, or it might be more related to hormones in the body during development. For instance, a boy with multiple older brothers has a greater chance of being gay than the rest of them. This might be because the mother's body built up a sort of immunity to the male genome inside of her, and her immune system altered the fetus to a slightly more feminine body chemistry.
