I believe genetics are what makes a person gay. I don't think environment or I don't even know what else, can determine your sexuality. One cannot decide to be gay. One doesn't wake up one day and decide hey, I like the same sex, I don't like the opposite sex anymore, and I don't know how something like that would progress over time. There's been gay people throughout human existent, nothing changed to turn more people gay.

Did I choose to be heterosexual, then? Because I don't feel like I made a conscious choice. I just sort of feel attracted to the opposite sex. I assume it is the same for homo/bisexuals.

NSG tends towards college age and older. The last age thread I checked the largest group was 20 to 22 year-olds with another large spike in the late 20's. IIRC.
