Interestingly, the poster doesn't believe you're born gay, but does believe everyone's born with a certain amount of interest in sex with their own gender. Weird.

I don't think you can "decide" to change sexuality. I couldn't "decide" to like men anymore than I can "decide" to love a food that I can't stand the taste of.

It may be possible for "accidental" subconscious/developmental changes to occur, however. I can see that happening. That food that I currently can't stand might not taste so bad in the future, and that would have taken no conscious effort on my part.

I should probably be worried that the first thing I thought to compare people with was food.

I'm born hetero and I can never, ever get into homosexuality or bisexuality. I can maybe try my hands on transgenderism (I do feel like a woman trapped in a man's body), but no way can I ever, ever get into homosexuality. Ever.

Same goes for homosexuals with hetero. Or bis with heteros. Etc.

Makes me wonder if he has those urges as well, and if we asked, if he would say "Oh, I don't, but everyone else does".

Yeah, I imagine it's probably a rare event, and I don't imagine that it happens through any sort of deliberate "choice" on the part of the individual, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened once or twice. As weird as humans can be, I'm often more surprised that something weird NEVER happens than that it does.

I think conscious choice could have an effect, but I doubt it could ever be the sole cause. Of course, the human mind seems to be largely a crap shoot, so these are barely-educated guesses.

The Kangaroo Republic wrote:Personally, I believe that this is a thing that may occur during puberty. It's a period of uncertainty as the body of the young child will start to develop into that of an adult. It's during this period that people will usually come to realize what their sexuality is. I mean, I myself, a 16 year old adolescent douche, am so far experiencing a lot of uncertainty regarding my own sexuality.

Before that I just plainly regarded myself as heterosexual, heck, I even had a girlfriend once, although that's just the kind of girlfriend most people have when they are ten, nothing serious, just lots of kissing and classmates mocking you by singing how you two are kissing in a tree, etc. But now, I am not even certain anymore whether I am heterosexual. It's simply because of all the changes people experience during puberty.

With this, at least the entire thing of changing sexuality during puberty can be explained fairly logically. And of course, some people may even change their sexuality over some time even later in their life, much like music preferences or food preferences can change, sexuality can change during adulthood too. Although this is usually a long and gradual process.

I think hormones clarify a lot of things (and confuse even more things, probably). Before puberty, I never considered whether or not I was straight, I just assumed I was, even though I grew up in a totally liberal household and grew up around gay people. I had the same kinds of feelings for boys and girls, I guess, but because there was no sexual interest behind those feelings at that age I interpreted them differently--I figured my feelings for guys were "crushes" and my feelings for girls were "friendship/envy". Then hormones kicked in and I realized those feelings weren't really very different at all.

You could consciously choose to watch gay porn all the time, meditate on cocksucking, etc. I'm not sure that would really turn you gay though.

Well, consciously choosing to encourage or suppress existing urges can change them. I'm bi now, but I suppressed the homosexual urges when they began and they weren't very strong. Once I started being okay with it mentally, they got stronger.

No, bro, you are not born neutral, or gay. You choose your paths, everyone is born hetero and attracted to the opposite gender! I am not gay, however I have occasionally felt so called "urges" to be with guys. As usual, I am straighter than straight, but have occasionally kind of 'dreamed' per se about the idea. Doesn't make me gay or bi, just a straight guy that doesn't always know what goes through his mind.
Later players, I have got some gaming long overdue to catch up one! (PSN Network is back!)

Is that why boys avoid playing with girls because girls have cooties and girls have sleepover with each other?

I mean, that sounds pretty homosexual to me.

Hmm, maybe because heteroism is natural. And also the only way to procreate, everyone is born hetero, but some people decide that they are gay.

You're gonna have to find a legitimate source that says homosexuality isn't natural, especially given that there are multiple other animals that engage in homosexual behavior.

No, that sounds socially normal to me. Most guys, will feel more comfortable hanging out with and associating with other guys, but still want to sleep with girls all they want. Girls can talk easier about their feelings to other girls, guys about girls, cars and sports with other guys...However, I was different because I have never been truly comfortable around guys because I have never been liked around guys and felt more comfortable around girls. Sounds gay when you hear stories about more feminine guys, but I KNOW that I am attracted to and wish to procreate with chicks instead of guys! (Of course you can't procreate with other guys, unless you're a chick, but you get the idea!)

Who says you have to have sex to prove that you're heterosexual. According to your logic I am still asexual because I am a virgin, but I am still heterosexual.
