If you're picking a life science when you go to university, make sure you look at the full range of courses they offer. As one of the classical degrees, sometimes biochemistry looks better on a CV than, say, Biomedical Sciences but it affords you much less freedom to play about with your study topics. Also biotechnology, whilst incredibly important in modern biology and an excellent area for research, is dull as fuck. Same with biophysics. Furthermore, be aware that a BSc (Hons) alone means jack shit; >50% of natural science graduates are either unemployed or "underemployed". If you go into it, try and do a year in industry or aim to go for a MSc/MRes immediately after your BSc because otherwise industrial and academic places will pass you by. These obviously apply less if you go to Oxbridge but it'll still be partially true.
