Ah well, the makers of Black Ops are probably wishing they waited a little bit more.

Because if it is, I'm probably going to say something mean and contrary just to contradict the majority.

This thread has given the libya megathread a mighty run for its money.

There were a few dead days in the libya thread too.

I was in the airport coming home from DC when they gave the annoucement that he was killed. I thought some Al-Quada sympathizer on my plane was going to go crazy! But woo hoo!! I hope you all have seen the video of him getting shot, and his picture after he was killed. GO SEALS!

You all may or may not find these to be in poor taste, but...I thought they were kind of funny.

It's this for many super important event threads. Like the Massive Earthquaki in Japan one a few months back. Gained 1,000 post soon, but declined and then skyrocketed again. It'll happen with this thread. However, this thread should last about another month at my predictions.

I think #4 is kind of funny as well as #13 (though I can't help but answering "jobs would be nice").

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

Pretty much this.

I stopped caring about Bin Laden like 5 years ago.
I heard news that he might be dead, and was like "meh"
I watched the presidents address, and than I went back to my regular interneting.

He probably didn't have a gun on him.

The BBC news are saying it is the same woman, and that he was unarmed. Not that I think that matters he bought getting shot on himself, however I do think this could have been handled better so as not to generate massive conspiracy theories.

Actually it is said that they did it through old-fashioned intel, not fancy things like waterboarding.

Similarly, none of the numerous foiled domestic terror plots in the US since 9/11 have been foiled using PATRIOT Act provisions like warrantless wiretap, but instead by old-fashioned infiltration. The only one I can think of that wasn't foiled by infiltration but was still foiled was that lone wolf in Texas who was busted by the chemical supply houses being required to red-flag receipts with suspicious item combinations (ironically many people thought this was overly paranoid).

I am glad and that doesn't surprise me at all; I don't believe torture produces reliable information it just reflects negatively on the country carrying out.

Just a couple days ago, I actually thought that OBL might be dead. Not necessarily, but was willing to give it a good probability.

The "burial at sea" news have really caused me to laugh out loud. All doubt that this might not be a fake has vaporized. It's not like he is a sailor or something - there would be no serious reason for burial at sea. They got some guy out of Al Qaeda, wanted to show him off as OBL, then thought better of it.

I mean, I'm not being conspirologist or something, but come on. Mysteriously lacking a body, mysteriously lacking photos, mysteriously lacking anything, and now burial at sea? I'll give it 18 to 1. Still leaving 5.3% for the average natural causes mortality rate at his age. But that's all there is, the probability of natural causes.

There not only has been no evidence presented to confirm the death, but everything is pointing to the contrary. And the date was convenient as well. There is nothing at all except for a claim, from a source known to routinely make false claims of the same nature, and wishful thinking going for the idea of this claim being real.

Oh ffs, if that is your idea of all the evidence you need to conclude that all this is fake then you are a conspiracy nut. Burial at sea was an obvious choice so as to not create a grave that could become a site of pilgrimage for his followers.

No, I'm not. Here in the internet, we have an expression: "pics or it didn't happen". There were no pics, and now the body has been mysteriously buried at sea. The burden of proof is on the one making the positive claim - in this case, the claim that OBL has been killed. This burden has not been satisfied.

What's wrong with creating a site of pilgrimage for his followers? Just create it close enough to Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo Bay that you can save on gas hauling everyone coming there.

Congrats on his death, my US friends ;)

Although I hate to be a party pooper, I must warn you not to think that this will be the end of terrorism. Islamic radicals are like cockroaches, you kill one of them only to find that three others have appeared in its place... :palm:

Seriously, no one thinks this...who do you guys think you're lecturing? There has to be like a hundred posts like this, making an obvious statement like you've enlightened the world...what the hell?
