Help please...Plastic, Plastic Everywhere

Plastic, Plastic Everywhere
The Issue

An unusual alliance of environmental activists and garbagemen have brought to your attention the increasing glut of plastic bags that have been found littering the streets of Arcana Wasteland's cities.

The Debate

op1 "These damn bags are everywhere!" shouts angry garbageman Chastity Utopia. "They're in our trees, in our rivers, in our streets, and in our sewer system! Do you know how much extra work we have to do to clean up after slobs who are too lazy to put their trash in a can? Ban these bags completely and fine those stores who refuse to comply! Sure, people may have to remember to bring their own damn bags, but think about the back-breaking labor my fellow garbagemen will avoid! And the environment, of course."

op2 "If you can't get rid of the bags, you must change the bags!" exclaims Gregory Wu, an environmentalist spokesperson wearing a lab coat and a huge grin. "Scientists have developed plastics that break down over time, so it doesn't matter where they're dumped. Require that only biodegradable plastic bags can be sold in Arcana Wasteland, and the problem will go away."

op3 "You're not really going to listen to this nonsense, are you?" says Peggy Fellow, CEO of PlastiCorp Industries. "Do you know how much this will hurt the plastic industry? How many people I will need to lay off? How many canas I - I mean, Arcana Wasteland - will lose? Our economy needs less environmental regulation, not more! Just say no to limits on our plastic bags, and while you're at it loosen up environmental laws for corporations in general. We can't afford to let hippie ideas get in the way of Arcana Wasteland's bottom line."

op4 "Why should consumers have to worry about bags at all?" asks Billy-Bob Dodinas, owner of an online grocery store. "E-commerce is the way of the future. We need to take the next step and put the entire retail industry online. Think about it! No more bags, no more waiting in line, no more wasted time going to the store for food when your food can come to you. Sure, it'll cause some unemployment in the short run, but there'll be plenty of jobs at our warehouses. Everyone who matters should have an internet connection by now and it's high time we embraced the future."

i want to increase the economy, without damaging the environment as well...what should i pick? i'm thinking of option 2 and 3...but i;m not really sure...pls help

Wrong forum bro, try Gameplay, not General. General is strictly OOC( Out of Character )

I have yet to see an economcially powerful nation with a good enviroment. Just decide which one is more important to you, economy or enviroment, or dismiss the issue.

Also, you may want the gameplay forum.

Welcome to NationStates!

As you are learning with this issue, politicians in both the real world and our world have to make trade-offs. Everything can't always be a win-win.

Environment vs Economy will not often go hand in hand. Choose wisely.

Enjoy the game! And as the others mentioned, on the forum area we have our own dedicated section for these issues.

This is an issue I wrote. While I'm not gonna spoil the stat changes for you (unless the mods heavily edited them), I will say that reading each option carefully is a good indicator on how it will effect certain aspects of your nation.

Lordieth ;)

It is possible. Not all economic raising options damage the environment, and vice versa.

Mine is. It can say economically powerful nation sometimes but will always say I have many lush forests.
