Almost all objections to homosexuality have a religious basis, even those boiling down to the "ick" factor. About half the gay guys I've known knew their orientation by time they started high school. How is is supposed to be beneficial to anyone to pretend that gays don't exist? You don't think most eighth graders have heard of gays? Or that if we don't tell them about it, they won't "turn" gay? Just like the abstinence only sex-ed classes seem to assume that if you don't tell kids about safe sex that they just won't have sex.
