I see. Thanks for correcting me.

Terra Agora wrote:So some people find it offensive?

What is offensive about the term "Negro"?

History. I guess some people just can't accept the fact that the current white population can't be held responsible for slavery.

Yes but Negro has no negative connotation. I can understand with the tern nigger because historically it has been used in a negative fashion, but I see nothing "wrong" with Negro.
I'd also like to note niger means black in Latin.

Typical Yank, using the term "African-American". What about my mate who's from Barbados. That makes him Euro-Caribbean, not Afro-American. Change it to black people.

"Niger" is pronounced more like "neeg-air" with a rolled R then "nigger".

It's not their fault. They were told in school by all their teachers that the correct phrase is "African American." This was indoctrinated into their minds by the public education system.

They are using that term because they were told all the others are offensive. And being good people they don't want to offend someone for no reason.

Yes it's dumb. But you can give them a bit of a break and blame the education system instead of the victims of the education system.

I was taught that "African-American" was more polite if you are talking about black people from the U.S., but that "black" was also acceptable. I use both.

Now that's just asking for it.

Southron Nation is not a Confederate-themed nation. It's some kind of Rhodesian thing.

Now Cobhanglica, that guy is asking for it. He's mixed race with a significant amount of black ancestry, but he's a white supremacist and has a Confederate flag on his nation.

It is Confederate Theme. He's a proud Southern Nationalist.

Depends on the school, region, and generation. But many many impressionable children were taught that black is a mean thing to call someone and that "African-American" is what you should say.

It may be dumb but it's what many people were taught. There are of course exceptions. It seems that African-American is less in style now too. I know some of you are still in school. Don't know what you are being taught now :)
