I tried running a LARP when I was in high school. Actually the girl I mentioned was one of the few people to show up for all 3 sessions before I lost interest in getting people to borrow costuming supplies from me because they were too poor and lazy too make their own.

I am, but I'm not aware of any groups that LARP. There's one that does D&D I think, but that's the closest and I think they're strictly tabletop. I also can't start groups because I'm a graduate student (only undergrads are allowed to start clubs).

It would be nice if I could just convince my friends to come over and spend an afternoon making swords (or other weapons), then spend another afternoon beating each other up with said swords.

My cousin used to LARP when he was a teenager. He made his own leather clothing and padded armor, as well as his own weapons.

He was also a 6'3" 15-year-old, so he was bigger than just about everyone else. Watching him smack the shit out of everyone was great.

Part of why my bf used a hammer on a long pole as his weapon is that it makes his reach absurdly long. He's 6'8", so if you add a 6" long weapon...
