Yeah, I posted it a "British documentary on communism" once. As a joke of course. That remains my favorite episode of Top Gear.

It's Christmas Eve and I'm about to get wasted. I'm going to have to catch up on the last 5 pages later. I do however, present this British documentary on communism.

I'm kidding of course. But this is by far, the funniest episode they did. Perhaps because I lived with the things for a decade. Export versions were nicer. Higher ups could bribe their way into an export version of course. The proletariat had no such luck.

No. Because efficient technology costs more than coal and oil. That's why the republicans deny global warming.

New technologies cost more because of the costs of the research needed and the components which make them more efficient. Efficiency uses less energy to save money, or it gets more out of the same amount of energy. However sometimes this is untrue, the subsidies for hybrid vehicles has led to their production, but at what cost? A pruis has already been around the world once prior to it's actual use. any emissions it's saved have really no change. The market would produced cars in the most efficient way. Coal is cheap for burning electricity, but it offers nowhere near the capacity of nuclear power, which is emission free (minus the waste but we can manage that).

It's really frustrating to see supposed anti-Marxists (BIG distinction between Marxism and other schools of communist thought) attack (not to mention supposed Marxists support) lines of thought that bear no relation to the current "cutting-edge," so to speak, of the various major interpretations of Marxism.

As an Objectivist, I'm pretty insistent that when people argue against Objectivism, they realize that Objectivism is defined by what Objectivists believe and not by what they think Objectivism is, and so that they argue against what Objectivists actually believe than against strawman Objectivism.

It seems reasonable that Marxist Communists are entitled to have the same degree of intellectual honesty employed in arguments against their ideas.

For a good overview of what a typical modern-day Marxist (an actual, committed Marxist as opposed to a dilettante) might actually believe (which is quite different from what some people seem to be insisting), might I suggest Bob Avakian's Phony Communism is Dead...Long Live Real Communism!?

he is, but you obviously haven't watched the new ones. he's been going a bit far lately. Dressing up in a burqa and driving through Syria. Takes balls but it's not that appropriate or aware. Just inciting violence towards the UK. I think he's awesome though. You should read his books.

yeah they are basically compiled from the column in writes...probably in the daily mail...but idk he is so funny. look for jeremy clarkson books on amazon. Even if you aren't that interested in cars it'd be a good read for all the funny shit he talks about.

Or consider solar panels. They cost $25,000 or more for a typical house. And then the utility pays for excess electricity at above market rates for solar energy. Where do they get the money? The poor shmucks paying above market rates for their coal and nuclear power. Again, the poor do not spend $25,000 on solar panels.

I'd say it's far more than 40%. I'd say it's close to 100%. Even the poor in the capitalist west are better off.

That's $8.67/gallon. Ouch. And we're bitching about $4/gallon gas. That's expensive for us. 2 years ago it was under $2.50. I remember getting gas for $0.87 once. Back in 1999.
