Yeah, I posted it a "British documentary on communism" once. As a joke of course. That remains my favorite episode of Top Gear.

I'm kidding of course. But this is by far, the funniest episode they did. Perhaps because I lived with the things for a decade. Export versions were nicer. Higher ups could bribe their way into an export version of course. The proletariat had no such luck.

Merry Christmas everyone.

I doubt it. Stalin would have called himself a marxist. If you were a real Stalinist you would be deluded into calling yourself a Marxist/Leninist .

It seems reasonable that Marxist Communists are entitled to have the same degree of intellectual honesty employed in arguments against their ideas.

For a good overview of what a typical modern-day Marxist (an actual, committed Marxist as opposed to a dilettante) might actually believe (which is quite different from what some people seem to be insisting), might I suggest Bob Avakian's Phony Communism is Dead...Long Live Real Communism!?

Well, yeah. Consider the Volt. It's a $40,000 car with a $7,000 tax credit, with barely any gas use for local commutes. The poor are not in the market for $33,000 cars.

Or consider solar panels. They cost $25,000 or more for a typical house. And then the utility pays for excess electricity at above market rates for solar energy. Where do they get the money? The poor shmucks paying above market rates for their coal and nuclear power. Again, the poor do not spend $25,000 on solar panels.

Communism: All must suffer in equal measure. Suffer in according to your need.
Capitalism: Rewarded in occurrence to ability, punished for every failure.
IE. All flounder under communism, i mean except the dictators and the leaders they end up filthy rich.
Capitalism works for around 40%. Good track record if you ask me.

you know what they've done here to 'stimulate the economy'. The put petrol prices down by 1p and have then upped tax on oil and gas companies...excuse me? They reduce 1p of their own tax and then tax the others who produce the oil more...petrol is £1. 40 a litre here.

I'd say it's far more than 40%. I'd say it's close to 100%. Even the poor in the capitalist west are better off.

We have oil subsidies and gas taxes.

That's $8.67/gallon. Ouch. And we're bitching about $4/gallon gas. That's expensive for us. 2 years ago it was under $2.50. I remember getting gas for $0.87 once. Back in 1999.
